Um, no, Ken, it means both. Because, see, a light-year is the distance that light travels in one year. So if a star is 25 light-years away, that means both that it is trillions of miles away from us, and that the light we see from that star tonight started off on its journey 25 years ago.
No amount of double-think will change that fact.
BTW, guys, the AiG guys generally believe and promote that the speed of light has decreased over time. Thus, even though certain stars are millions of lightyears away, it still only took their light 6,000 years to get here. Because light has gotten slower.
Naturally, there is no evidence of such a thing even being possible, much less actually happening in our universe. (How would you measure such a thing if it happened, anyway?) This is especially mind-boggling when you consider that light moves so incredibly fast that it took until the 17th century or so for people to realize it does, in fact, move.

"Light Year" means the distance traveled by light over the period of one year. So a star that is 100000 light years away, means that the light we're seeing from said star, was emitted 100000 years ago, which means the star we see is at least 100000 years old. With that known, that means the 6000 years mentioned by the Bible is false.
Then again, fundies like you don't let facts get in the way of your fantasies.

If something is a million light years away, it either took a million years for light to get here or light travels thousands of times faster than it does here. But that latter solution would change the entire structure of the universe. That's been pointed out many times.

Yes it is a measure of distance, but light travels at a certain speed. So can you guess how long it takes for light to travel one light year. I know its kinda hard with the Bible right in front of your eyes, but try to get there.
