It is not possible for a same sex marriage to destroy Marriage - with a capital M. They might have the ability to destroy their own marriage but not Marriage as an overarching concept.

It's already nearing that stage, jackass. There are multiple effective treatments that can suppress the HIV so that it either never becomes AIDS or extends the time quite a bit prior to that. AIDS itself is also treatable now. Last I heard, there were even some vaccines that were nearing a usable state.

So shut the fuck up.

A few things to say.

#1: Go fuck yourself with a white hot piece of steel.

#2: Your statistics are pulled out of your ass.

#3: If you wish for your views to be taken seriously, quit randomly capitalizing, and actually learn to spell correctly.

#4: Actually, they are well on the way to finding a cure for it. As it stands, HIV can be cured if found early enough. Some medicines are actually being developed that have shown promise in treating AIDS to the point of a cure.

(I honestly don't have the link for where I got this, but they are testing some new medicine as well as a new way of administering it. The medicine, when combined with the technique has been found to be quite effective in treating the virus. Currently, the medicine I am talking about renders it to a relatively harmless version of itself, but it is still there, so when it does make it to market, then safe sex should still be practiced.)

Wikipedia quotes several sources as stating that between 2001 and 2005, 82% of new HIV infections in Australia were from gay sex, so McFarlane is correct that far. However, only 64% of new AIDS cases were among gay men. That means that gays are, as a group, a bit more aware of the danger and seek prophylactic treatment if they fear that they've been exposed. So McFarlane heard a soundbite and mis-interpreted it to support his views on marriage.

He does not seem to realize that gay marriage (or an equivalent civil partnership - which I thought the Aussies already had) is not going to have any significant effect on HIV transmission. If anything, it might encourage monogamous behavior, which would help stop the epidemic.

So yeah, Mcfarlane is making no sense at all.
