On one hand, it's just bible school.
On the other hand... creepy.
Hey cool, first.

Pretending to be God. Isn't that a sin?
Why don't they build a really big head that looks like God's face and someone can hide behind it and talk through a megaphone.

I don't agree with it...it sets them up for a nasty fall when they learn they can't just chat with God, and have to rely on faith...but honestly, this one's pretty harmless, IMO.
[EDIT] And then I accidentally WTF it. *facepalm at own fail.*

Yet another case of "the end justifies the means"--as long as you're doing it for your faith you can lie, cheat, steal, and send letters saying "Your son is in hell" to people who've just lost a gay son.
This is so totally fucked up.

And in other news Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and an intelligent fundies are also real.

I'm pretty sure pretending to be the Voice of Gawd is some sort of blasphemy or other. Personally, I say you're treading a thin line when you claim you're speaking for god and at least one of the morons running this place is pretending to be god.

"And how do you know God is real?"
"I've spoken with him, duh!"
And out of such 'harmless' actions are blind faith made.

When I was about 6 or 7, I got a phone call from David Hasselhoff during his Knight Rider days.
It took me a few years to realize that my mom and my cousin did it.
Point?: There's more chance in David Hasselhoff calling me back then than God calling anyone on a phone.
Still, it will piss them off for years to come over being tricked.

"phone call" from "god"
Yeah... riiiiight...
They have no shame! Tricking minors and pretending to be god. They have no shame!!

Child abuse, plain and simple. The message is "follow me or spend eternity in agony with a scary monster". Douchebags.

Lying-for-Jesus to kids since 100 CE.
Children have not developed critical thinking skills at that age, so it's easy to fill their heads with all manner of stupid shit.
It's the religious indoctrinator's best ally.

Awesome, so I guess if we check the phone records from that day we'll get god's phone number then? Somehow I think we'll find a series of calls coming from your location though.

So that's why God created cell phones. It took him a while, but I guess a few thousand years is nothing when you've got eternity.

Shame on you! It's very low to lie to young kids.
No, I don't like people to lie to kids about Santa Claus either.

You know, it must of taken a lot of effort to coordinate this event. It would have been a lot simpler to pray and ask for God to actually call... since, you know, they believe he exists and answers prayers.

If that's how God communicates, I guess he has communicated with me after all! Though he should probably speak a bit more clearly. Obscene phone calls from God aren't as informative as you'd think they'd be.

> Every child participating in this program received a call from God Wednesday as they took part in games, music and crafts all this week at the church’s vacation bible school.
When I was a kid, I got "hidden files" from Santa Claus that told where the presents were hidden. I tried my hardest to ignore the fact that metadata pointed to my father.
Yes, I knew about author metadata when I was a kid. What makes you think the kids won't start ask inconvenient questions about caller IDs and whatnot?
Bottom line: Cute trick, but will lead to questions.
