So? There's gays & lesbians in the British armed forces; my nephew, who's in the East Yorkshire regiment, tells me there's two gay soldiers there. It makes no difference to them. They're part of the squad. They'll defend their fellow squaddies as much as the rest'll defend them, in the thick of fighting the Taliban (as they are doing in Afghanistan right now).

You conservatives have this weird trend where you confuse rights with obligations or mandates. You have a right to abort your child, but you don't have to if you don't want to. You have a right to serve in the military whether you're gay or not, but you don't have to if you don't want to. We're working on giving you the right to smoke weed, but you still won't have to if you don't want to.

Factual quibble: Obama has stated multiple times that he wants Congress to pass DADT repeal (which they did) for him to sign, and not do away with it by executive order. There are legal and practical reasons for this; DADT was passed by Congress into law, an EO against it would be weak, and a later President could simply reinstate it by EO. Hence the repeal via legislation.

First of all, DADT is a law passed by Congress, so Obama can't undo it with an executive order. It will take legislation from Congress to change it. With that flaw in your "reasoning" out of the way, I think it's safe to say the rest of your post is just as much mental diarrha as the opening sentence.
Oh, and do you mean "straight, good, gawly men" like Ted Faggard, Larry Craig, Mark Foley? Or even Sens. John Ensign and Dave Vitter?

Actually, there's another law stating that the President can suspend laws regarding military eligibility such as DADT when necessary to promote retention, etc. Not that he's likely to do so -- this is the same Obama who helped pass Prop 8 by providing the "Gawd is in the mix" clip and has had his Justice Department write briefs in federal cases demanding heterosexual supremacy and calling homosexuality morally equivalent to pedophilia. Obama loves LGBT money, and loves to be seen by somewhat-less-than-entirely-homophobic straight people as caring and supportive; but in terms of actually working for LGBT people, he's MIA. (Remember the hospital visitation thing? It only applies to hospitals run by the federal government, most of which are military-related and thus barred to non-closeted LGB people. And he would only support DADT "repeal" when it's completely at the whim of the military command and can be reinstated by the next administration.)

??? Why would opening up the military to gays (since they're already serving) mean the draft has to be reinstated? And what makes you think that allowing gays in the military to be openly gay will make straight people quit the military? Even if they wanted to, they couldn't just quit right away. Enlistments are for so many years, you don't get to just pack up & leave because some icky gays are serving with you.

And, maybe it's just because I'm a woman, but, actual equality for women means being called to do unpleasant things, too, like the "new draft that's coming" (see above for my thoughts on that.)
