Gay soldiers being allowed to say they are gay soildiers will not magically infect people with HIV kk.
Those situations that you just described already happen...without incedent.

Uh, I'm pretty sure that being HIV positive would come under 'health issues' that prevent you from enlisting...
How is this any different to any other disease though?

@DOOS
"Silly me, i thought we were better than animals, and actually could have self restraint."
We are animals. Even you are of higher intelligence than a vegetable. Many animals show better restraint as a species when it comes to killing each other than humans do. 10,000 years of superstition and religious bullshitting has only served to allow the few at the top of the pyramid to direct the mayhem. Don't talk to me about jack boots. The US has been taken in that direction by the insanely bigoted far right at regular intervals. Oppression has many forms, not all overtly brutal. This is not what the Founding Fathers intended, nor is it what my ancestors hoped for when they tried to escape the veneer of civilization in Europe. Between the government, the corporations, and the insurance companies, I'm practically a serf. My relatively high standard of living only serves to make me a valued consumer. China already owns our ass by the way, and they didn't need to fire a shot. We were sold out. We are every bit as susceptible to financial collapse as was the Soviet Union.

Obviously this American Fundy ASS-ociation turd never heard of type & screening for blood. Then again, maybe shitbags like Bryan don't believe in it.

Same works with heterosexuals, droggadicts or hemophilic. Difficult recruitment, eh?

Except for the fact that individuals with HIV still won't be allowed into the military, whether they're gay or straight. MOST gay men don't have it.

@Gloria: It's the blind generalizations.
What is with the ignorance of the United States military? Don't these people bother to ask different members in the military about how it's like to serve before making comments?
I think they would be suprised, or disappointed.

I used to know a beautiful young Canadian woman named Kristine. She lived in St. Petersburg, Florida at the time. So fucking hot and a brilliant mind too...
I miss her so fucking much.

Bryan Fischer is showing himself to be an ignorant and bigoted git. It is just as likely that an heterosexual will be HIV + as any gay.
In denial much, Bryan?

All gay men do not look like this.
Pink feathered boas are unlikely to be found in military foot lockers regardless of owner's orientation.

Not all gay people have AIDS, some straight people do, and I believe that AIDS disqualifies someone from military service anyways.

Bryan, you stupid, stupid man.
Heterosexuals can and do get HIV, and some of them are like as not in service.
Furthermore, if "don't ask, don't tell" secrecy extends to medical records, then even if your specious fear-driven drivel was correct, the non-open homosexuals would be stuck donating blood to maintain the facade!
So, in order:
1) Straights and non-combatants donating blood may have HIV and some of it might get past filters.
2) Filters and tests exist to prevent HIV contamination of all donated blood, period.
3) HIV doesn't distinguish open or hidden homosexuality any more than it does one being straight or gay in the first place!
The bottom line is you're a fundie fearmonger with no grasp of basic biology OR virology.
Go back under your rock!

I'd rather you were blown-up by an Islamic terrorist than saved by a homosexual soldier of the US military; I expect you do too. Isn't it nice when people with differing political outlooks can sometimes agree?

Pretty easy to test for HIV, as well as other common blood-borne infections. In fact, they do that whenever they take blood donations from anyone to make sure that they're not going to infect the recipient of the blood.

So wait, you really think that every gay person is HIV+? And do you really think that doctors don't keep records of bloodborne diseases their soldiers may have?
The tests take, like, a week. Soldiers are already screened for disease.

Um... the US Army screens applicants for HIV for a reason. To keep an HIV infected soldier from potentially infecting his fellow soldiers. Gays serving in the military is a non-issue, and the Christian right in this country has already lost this debate. Besides, not every gay is HIV positive. It's not like you suddenly realize you are gay and you automatically get HIV.

Since apparently no one knows this from reading through these comments, I'll fill you in on how the Army handles things.
A: An HIV test is part of the physical performed before and after every deployment, along with a Tuberculosis test afterwards.
B: Personnel who do test positive are not discharged automatically.
C: They are, however, barred from deployment/overseas service and are concentrated at certain bases, such as FT Gordon, so that they get proper medical care from specialists. And are fully covered by the VA when they do complete contract.
I have heard nothing but ignorance posted in this thread so far, and it's a disservice to the reality and reason we are all supposed to look to and uphold.
