Any chance the magazine has a web site for us in the states?

"For example, liberal Christians"

ahh...you mean hypocrites who cherry pick the bible and ignore the sections that are inconvenient or conflict with their liefstyles, or require to much discipline or restraint. Ahy yes those "christians". A christian can be liberal when it comes to economics and such; a real christian is a socialist, but a christian that is liberal on social issues and is a hypocrite.

There is, www.private-eye.co.uk, but there's not that much on the site. I'm afraid it is down to old-fashioned page turning for the real deal. Also, I must admit that it is pretty UK-centric, mostly covering UK politics, media, press, etc. Nothing in it really about fundies. Still, I like it.

"... or require to (sic) much discipline or restraint."

Says the the numpty with all the discipline and restraint of a rampaging troll wearing hob-nail boots, both left-footers, and both on back-to-front, stomping his way through his neighboour's flower-beds, shouting and gesticulating wildy at all the garden gnomes thinking that they are defiantly glaring at him and making fun of his delusions, er, I mean religion.

Yep. Fight ignorance, intolerance, and bigotry by banning religion and the expression thereof. Let's throw in some book burning and re-education camps to go with it. What could possibly go wrong?

@Brigged

Isn't it far more powerful to convert your enemy and destroy his beliefs than to destroy his body and allow his memory to stand as a rally point for those who shared his cause? Yes, incarceration and bloodshed is the faster route, but it requires greater strength of numbers and weapons to succeed. Last I checked, we were a stark minority on this planet with quite little political and military clout. Cries for uprising seem premature at best and suicidal at worst. Surely the slower, more insidious route of systematically weakening the tenets of their faith with repeated and increasingly damning proofs to the contrary, lawful elimination of special privileges such as tax-exempt status to undermine their economic footing, and a surge of exposes and pro-atheism PR campaigns with the goal of wholesale conversion to the cause would be the more pragmatic and advantageous strategy at this point in time?

You say you have built your stand on a foundation of logic and reason, but have you checked the numbers lately? I don't think we're in a position to afford your methods just yet.

Ahh you mean like Communist nations such as Stalinist Russia and Maoist China did? You mean that kind of PROPAGANDA campaigns? Nice to know what you atheists have planned. And keep on dreaming; religion has been around for thousands of years and will continue to do so.

How's your campaign coming along? Or should I say campaigns, plural?

First, there's the campaign whereby you satiate your trollish lusts. You do that by haw-hawing and hur-hurring to yourself on FSTDT like a humourless and demented jerk mentally masturbating his faltering brain.

Second, there's the campaign where you shill on behalf of that child abusing club, what is it called now, something to do with being servants of an invisible sky monster, Christianity is it? Anyway, you shill for the right of the aforementioned club to be continued to be treated with kid gloves in public despite the pitiless monstrosity of its evil actions, while you declare your undying allegiance to it.

The convenient thing for you is that the second of your campaigns helps you conduct the first.

@Brigged : along with some others, I tried my best to answer your objections. How did you answer us ? By throwing random, dramatic, trite, fauxlosophical "truths" about human nature. By comparing yourself to fucking Darwin. By attributing us words we didn't say or even thought (once again : "Here, you continue to overestimate human capabilities, preferring to believe that rationality will conquer all, despite ample evidence to the contrary. That you consider dwindling church numbers over a span of a few decades as evidece for anything is just sad." Nobody here said that, and I'm pretty sure nobody here think like that). By affirming your ideas are correct, that you are the "objective" one, without caring about argumenting your position. By rejecting our positions explicitely just because they're not identical to yours and you know you're absolutely-objectively-completely-righteously right.

More generally, you're asking us to "do what I say, not what I do" - put into question your "deluded" beliefs while I'm unconditionally holding to mine ; argument your positions while I'm simply throwing them at you ; explain me in detail how I could be wrong while I simply redirect you to the supposedly abundant corpus of evidence in my favor, again comparing it to evolution without even caring about the methodological differences between an exact science like biology, and humanities.

Even assuming your positions are right, you're so completely clueless about how to defend them that we would probably still be justified to reject your gospel.

Also. Stop whining about how rejected and misunderstood you are like some emo teen. Seriously. If we didn't consider you an "intellectual egal", if we didn't think that what you're saying has at least some value, most of us wouldn't be trying to argue with you. Instead, we would talk with each other about how ridiculous, how stupid, how crazy you are, without caring about your eventual answers except for deriding them further, like we're doing with William T Goodall and many other "fundies", and like I'm personally doing with DOS.

How is that different to conservative Christians, who eat shrimp, defend the wealthy, throw the first stone, and refuse to give back what belongs to Caesar ? Oh, sure, they've got their justifications. So have liberal Christians.

<<I advocate the outlawing and forceful suppression of religion. Those that want to die fighting it are free to do so. These were the kind of people who would have likely been a threat anyway. Those that want to practice their religion in their basement are free to do so. But religion would then be gone from public life.>>

I quote myself from earlier. Where do you think liberal Christions would go in this little scenario? Think carefully now, I know it's hard.

Shades of grey don't matter, because it is not they that pose the threat. Shades of grey are a luxury.

Still not seeing any legitimate response to my arguments. Mostly people rolling around on the floor, fists banging with tears streaming down their face.

Here's the general theme of the responses.

<<You cannot possibly be right because I see no evidence of your claims.>>

What am I, Wikipedia? Go take a look for yourself.

<<Therefore, you are a troll etc>>?

Really? Where's your irrefutable evidence then?

<<How dare you consider yourself an intelligent person?
That clearly means you are deluded and you must liken yourself to Charles Darwin!>>

Zzz... you should get up of that floor, it's dusty down there.

Well look who's here. I have to commend you on commenting here even though most people are against you. But that's about all I'll commend you on. Also, I wanted to say that it doesn't matter whether or not you think your idea is possible all that matters is that you WANT this draconian system. Anyway, since you're here you can answer some questions:
///1) Why would you want send people to life in prison for simply being wrong?

Since there's no known cure for religionism putting them in mental hospital wouldn't work.

///2) Why do you consider censorship a legitimate tactic?

Suppressing the vile hate-speech of religionists isn't censorship. They have nothing legitimate to say.

///3) Given the track record of bans (i.e. Prohibition, the war on drugs, etc.), why would you even WANT to use such an approach?

Nothing else has worked.

///4) When you say "religion should be banned", do you mean all religions including the peaceful ones like Buddhism or Jainism? Are you going to feel good about putting a Jain in prison?

I don't feel good about putting anyone in prison.

///5) Did you ever think about the religious people's families?

The families are better off without a religionist influence around.

///6) Are you intending on putting religious children into life imprisonment?

Unlike adults children might be curable.

"Mostly people rolling around on the floor, fists banging with tears streaming down their face."

If that is how your fevered imagination wants to imagine a scenario, whereby an asinine troll causes the massed hordes of FSTDT to crumble in defeat at the masterful hands of Brigged the Destroyer. Brigged the Supreme. Brigged the Only (because everyone else is in jail for one reason or the other). Actually, if there's any merit in your vision of "Mostly people rolling around on the floor, fists banging with tears streaming down their face." it's because of fits of hysterical laughter at the ineffectual efforts of a steaming ninny. However, the reality of the phrase is that its utterance is just another inane trollish device to keep on being a jerk.

It's surely plain to see that you are an idiotic ass. A troll of cretinous proportions. Long may you continue, because you are just another fundie troll who it's fun to mock, a silly and pretentious drab. Surely you don't think people are going to give you serious consideration, or do you? Perhaps you do. I suppose life can become rather meaningless when its spent mostly in the cold and dark under a dank and dripping bridge.

Currently, the chief of Brigged's concerns lies less with the incarceration of religious people and more with the baiting of FSTDT users.

He's like a modern day global-village-idiot who capers and jigs spasmodically with the avowed intention of attracting our metaphorical rotten eggs and mouldy tomatoes. Why disappoint him?

A question. We understand that you advocate the banning of religion and that those promoting it should be jailed. Just as, obviously, you understand that hardly anyone on FSTDT agrees with your stance. So how many posts does it take you to make the same points over and over? Posts which ultimately boil down to 'prove me wrong'. 'nobody can prove me wrong', 'neena, neena, get off the floor, ha,ha, you can't prove me wrong'.

What, Brigged a troll? Surely not? Brigged, a lonely jerk with no point to his existence other than to feed off the meagre crumbs of contact that are available to him by the only means he knows, prevarication of web users from his mum's basement? A basement that he's decorated in the baroque under-bridge architectural style of trolls and Parisian hunchbacks.

Since there's no known cure for religionism putting them in mental hospital wouldn't work.

No known cure? Then why is it that numerous religious people (including former fundies) have become atheists. Case in point: Matt Dillahunty from the Atheist Experience who was even studying to become a preacher before he deconverted.

Suppressing the vile hate-speech of religion isn't censorship.

Suppression of speech IS censorship. I think the dictionary you are using is broken. Go buy a new one.

They have nothing legitimate to say.

Nothing? Really? "Love thy neighbor as thyself" is not legitimate? Granted, you don't have to be religious to follow that or something like that and religion doesn't have a monopoly on these nuggets of wisdom but there are some in there and to say there aren't is pure propaganda. There's enough wrong with religion; we don't have to resort to lying about it.

Nothing else has worked.

Bullshit. The problem is that different people respond to different approaches (i.e. some respond to logic, some to moral arguments, and some to various combinations of approaches and the challenge is to find those approaches. Or you can take the lazy way and just stuff 'em in jail and then prepare to deal with the international backlash, your choice.

The families are better off without a religionist influence around.

So you think an orphan with both parents in jail is better off than a child raised in a religious home?

Unlike adults children might be curable.

The expression "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is utter bullshit. While there are some people that are so far gone that nothing will ever get through to them, most people are not that far gone and can still be reasoned with or at least emotionally swayed. I personally know people who deconverted even into their 50s or 60s. Now, granted, statistically people tend become more conservative as they age, that doesn't mean it's impossible to get through to them, it might just take a bit more work and a more nuanced approach.

I quote myself from earlier. Where do you think liberal Christions would go in this little scenario?

Even liberal Christians will go to church or wear crosses on their necks or talk about god in public (i.e. to their Christian friends), so according to your scenario they'd be in jail as their religion is out in public. And I think it's wrong to imprison people who did nothing wrong and just want to talk about their religion. What would you do with, say, Martin Luther King Jr. who constantly preached in public was still alive today and preaching? Would you arrest him too?

Think carefully now, I know it's hard.

Don't fucking condescend to me, you prick.

Shades of grey don't matter, because it is not they that pose the threat. Shades of grey are a luxury.

Shades of gray are what prevent a simplistic, unilateral, one-size-fits-all approach such as the ones proposed here from working.

Still not seeing any legitimate response to my arguments. Mostly people rolling around on the floor, fists banging with tears streaming down their face.

Then you must have accidentally turned on a soap opera on the TV, because I see no crying or fist-banging on here.

SITUATION VACANT

There is an opening at the University Of Life for lecturer of a new course, "The World's Greatest Philosophies". Will suit lady or gentleman who is renowned as being the world's greatest philosopher. The course will last half an hour, split into three session of one per year, each to last ten minutes, with a tea break in each session.

The successful candidate will probably live under a bridge or possibly in his or her mother's basement, or ideally both (vagrants need not apply), and will be responsible for providing his or her own knuckle-guards and clubs for bashing students. Remuneration to be decided but it would be an advantage for the successful candidate if he or she had a predilection for tomato omelette.

Though not strictly a requirement, it will count in the candidate's favour if she or he can successfully negotiate the procedure known as the counting of ones own toes, either lefties or righties, a success being when the applicant's answer reflects the situation in reality to a precision of exactitude.

Note, this vacancy will ideally be filled by the vacant of mind.

Hence why i dont even bother listening to what is said here. Besides i never claimed to be arguing, just making comments. Really if you think i care about what a bunch of atheist, whom i hate more than almost anything else on earth think, you must be high. Have fun thinking im crying over that.
