"this is the first time i have ever seen anyone on either side of the debate show actual textbooks on physics, chemistry and astronomy, citing sources for his points of view. what he says makes sense. "
Translation: I don't know anything about that them physics, chemistry and astronomy as they scare me, but Spike Psarris has come along and filled in the gaps with "God did it" and that's all I need know. Now, where's my banjo at?
"all the evolutionists do is spew the “billions of years” yet 0 evidence to back it up."
So you admit you haven't read a single secular source about the age of the universe? Well, at least you are being honest...
"whatever happened to science being an objective way of going about studies?"
It is objective, dumbarse. Just because it's objective to your fairy tale doesn't make it not objective at all. Your Bible conflicts with what science has discovered. Science has the evidence. Deal with it.
"this is what science is about. science is not about seeing something and then using a computer simulation based on only what you see and then say “ok thats what happened. this is billions of years old and is light years away.”"
It sounds to me like you are getting all your information from Kent Hovind, Ben Stein and other pro-religious/anti-science propagators.
"why oh why is it that astronomy is always the exception to the rule when it comes to real science and astronomers can always get away with whatever they say being considered a theory?
i’m sick and tired of astronomers and their ridiculous observations. at least let the engineers make the observations. they actually make the machinery and do the real work."
Real science? Like what the Flat Earth Society spews out? Science doesn't cease to be science because your chosen religious convictions disagree with it. You can't vote on what is science and what it isn't.

You get a point for apparently understanding what theory means in this context, but you lose a bunch more points for having no clue how science works otherwise (particularly how simulations are used). Take a decent introductory astronomy class and have pretty much all your points answered.

Those computer programs are based on observations done previously. You don't need to invent the wheel every time you find something, you can use already confirmed data to compare with new ones. Thus knowledge is expanding, growing.
With creationism and the Bible, knowledge is actually diminishing, shrinking.
What do astronomers have to do with "evolutionists"? Biology and astronomy have very little in common.
A petri dish might be useful sometimes, but it can't dig up old fossils, for example. There are many, many different fields of science. (No, creationism is NOT among them.)
Oh, and please use the science of writing. Each sentence should begin with a capital letter. Names should also be capitalized.
Have you never observed this, in all your textbook perusing?

whatever happened to religion being the simple original way of going about life? i yearn for the day when all we had was a little wood doll to worship and a couple of virgins to toss into a volcano. sigh . those were the days . when there were virgins.
i’m sick and tired of grammer nazis and their ridiculous rules. at least let the fundies make the claims. they actually do the real writin'. there are way too many commas and apostrophes. who needs them? i say we get rid of some.

Then you missed the past 40 years. Perhaps it's the first time you saw a creationist use actual textbooks.

Spectrography allows us to determine the point in a star's life cycles at which it exists, and what wavelengths it should be putting off. Knowledge of the speed of light, along with cosmic redshift allow us to determine the distance from us that a star is, in the visible universe.
this is a very simplified example, but from there it's nothing but math. using a computer makes sure the math is done the same every time.
If a star is billions of light years away, and we can observe its light, then it has been at least a billion years since that light was emitted

Why would astronomers use a microscope, petri dish, Bunsen burner, test tubes, or DNA to determine the age of the universe? I thought they used something relevant, like the red shift?
Sam here apparently doesn't understand science.

Most science is done with more complex tools than Bunsen burners. Like the Hubble, which got this image. You may notice most of the galaxies are orange or red, so they're moving away from us. There are also more galaxies than people. The idea that "He did it all for you" is arrogant and silly.

Sometimes I wonder if the most depressing part is that these people seem to never have even a basic exposure to how interesting the real science can be. Sure, not everyone's going to be a scientist -- but it doesn't take years of training to at least learn to be an intelligent reader of science. Hell, if a community-college-level physics class can afford enough equipment for students to calculate the speed of light, Rydberg constant, etc. to within 1% of what the most precise instruments in existence will get you -- what excuse is there for the level of ignorance required to insist that this is all just pulled out of our asses?

I'm an astronomer; been a dedicated amateur astronomer ever since I could pick up a pair of binoculars, looked at the Moon, and could read a sky chart. I also was an assistant astronomy instructor and observation session tutor in university. Astronomy is and always will be my deepest passion.
You gonna get rid of me, Sam?
Why don't you just come and try, hmmmm?

Except we HAVE made observations. By observing a star from two separate locations on Earth, we can determine how far the star away is, thanks to the parallax view and trigonometry. We KNOW that these stars are light years away, because we have OBSERVED IT. We've also observed cosmic background radiation from the Big Bang, showing the age of the universe quite clearly.
If you want to get rid of astronomers, start with fuckheads like Psarris.
