Quote# 71022

God is very clear about how He feels about homosexuality. Sodom and Gomorrah are a serious warning to us all.

Can I be friends? No. I cannot look the other way and stay silent while my friend is on the path to hell. No gay will tolerate a "friend" who tells them they need to repent or burn for eternity. I have gay family members who will not speak to me.

For gays, the price of friendship is: ACCEPTANCE of their sin. I can have a working relationship with gays, but not a friendship. If I cared for them at all, I could not stay silent. If I spoke and they refused to even acknowledge what I said, I would have to break fellowship with them.

I cannot accept gay marriage. I believe gay adoption is child abuse.
Look at that verse again and change the word gay with thief, swindler, fornicator. Could I be friends with one of those? No. Neither could I be a friend with gays.

Take the question a step further. Can you accept unrepentant gays in your church, teaching Sunday school?

Beloved, do NOT let politically correct culture deceive you. The homosexual agenda is a cancer in any society. If you love a friend, can you be silent?

If you care about your gay friend, you will sleep with him, and try to figure out a way to reproduce, so that there's lots of twinkies, and then the human race will disappear, and in a zillion years it will start all over again, and have to re-invent the twinkie.

Except most Christians who read that story focus on the fact that both cities had (supposedly, as the story isn't written by anyone who was actually living there--no, not even Lot) homosexuals living within their walls, and automatically think that this was why God brought them down.

That's not why---it's because they had committed the ultimate sin, as it were, for a city/people--they'd known God, but turned away from Him willingly. You don't need to know the Bible very well to see where that leads.

And, you know, God doesn't want you to treat people like shit. That's kind of something you want to avoid doing, because it'll come back around to you. That's why one of the most important commandments is supposed to be "Love one another". You don't have to condemn, you don't have to condone.

Just, you know, help folks when they're in a bad way. Be a decent human being. It's really not that hard.
Better answers here: http://www.whosoever.org/v2i3/sodom.html

But, you know, Sodom was destroyed because they were lazy fuckers who didn't care about anyone but themselves--not even the poor and dying who lived among them.

Most folks don't understand how sacred the whole notion of guests in one's home was at that time. Both cities treated visitors like SHIT, also, they raped women. A lot.

In general, they were just mean, nasty people beyond (apparently) the point of helping. The mixup comes from studying the verses out of context of their book and the TIME THEY WERE WRITTEN IN.

Also, no knowledge of the language they were originally written in, as many words do not translate fully from Hebrew to English/whathaveyou, so the translator picks the one that fits their ideas best.

Never liked the story of Lot, mostly because he'd rather offer up his daughters than two visitors from heaven. Granted, I know women were thought of as inferior, and then there's the whole thing with the sanctity of a visitor at the time but still.

Also, the incest. Yeaaaaaahhhh. <.<

Seriously, though, Fundies--read a Bible. Don't just go on what your pastor says.

"I believe gay adoption is child abuse."
I believe that using religion to brainwash people into being bigots as children is child abuse.
Also the bit about gays teaching in church is funny because usually if you are a gay christian in a sect that disagrees with people being gay, they encourage you to join the clergy.

"Really I think i would rather just give everyone a nice new bible and some cookies ....ugh I HATE thinking!"
This quote from later in the same thread is pretty great.

How can this person interact with anyone if he thinks that it means he accepts their sins? Hell, he's a sinner, he shouldn't even recognize that he exists.

Just another day when all that I want will mark me as a sinner tonight, I'm a sinner tonight, yeah! (from Ten Thousand Fists, by Disturbed).

1) The sin of Sodom was inhospitality according to your Bible.
2) You raising kids is child abuse.
3) Stop misusing the phrase "politically correct".
