Regarding a teacher in the UK who is facing disciplinary action for after repeatedly proselytising to a student, even after being asked to stop by the girl's parents

I'm just appalled when I hear stories such as this. I have yet to hear in the news that a muslim or an atheist or an amoral person who shares his philosophies in a western country received some sort of treatment like this. Anybody can just highlight words but the sad fact still holds: In today's democracy, free speech is free speech only and only if Christianity isn't in the speech. This is pathetic. Many biblical Christians have been subjected to as much verbal harassment in the school or at the neighborhood but we take in stride because we purposely adhere to the individual soul liberty. As much as you honor and tolerant of words from atheists, amoral and immoral people, there should be also a tolerant of Christianity. Do remember this. Democracy is an application NOT by Islam, nor by atheism, nor by liberalism, nor by amoral practices, but by Bible-practicing believers of Jesus Christ. That's the truth and that's the fact!

The teacher was asked to stop and yet he continued. It is not a question of his Christianity. It is a question of his refusal to respect and adhere to certain boundaries.

Democracy knows no religion. Your attempt to claim it as exclusively Christian is ridiculous and arrogant.

Fundy persecution complex.

Democracy is an application NOT by Islam, nor by atheism, nor by liberalism, nor by amoral practices, but by Bible-practicing believers of Jesus Christ.

Democracy existed WELL before Christianity even existed. It got its first major start in Greek city-states. You fail.

@Tyler

Not just that, but christianity stood in the way of democracy re-emerging for over a thousand years. Absolute monarchies anyone?

Why? He has no business preaching his brand of religion to someone not of his faith, especially in a school. He is there to teach Reading, Writing, and Maths. He was asked to stop, he didn't.

Small FYI.. "democracy' was invented by a polytheistic culture.. Greece.

Two fails in one. Good job!

Oh, for fucks sake. We simply don't do this crap. Also, in the UK, there are these things called "Professionalism" and "Standards". If you repeatedly break these two things, you are going to make the HM's government rather irate.

What the hell does "Democracy is an application" mean?

When will these people understand the difference between expressing a personal opinion and trying to convince someone else of that opinion, especially if the one trying to do the convincing is in a position of authority?

That's because muslims and atheists don't proselytize like you assholes do. Also, part of the problem is that the teacher is doing this AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STATE. This means that she is, effectively, MAKING THE STATE ENDORSE A SINGLE RELIGION.

Once again fundies are going to cry persecution over this. School is a place for learning, if you people want to preach at people, then you should have become a priest/pastor instead.

Another reason why you don't hear about Muslims or atheists or liberals getting disciplined like this is because those groups (at least in the western world) don't proselytize or try to push their beliefs onto others even when said others don't want it.

I'm sorry but we have fools like this teacher in the UK as well. Because of this there are some pretty tough rules on what they can and cannot do, but it is part of their contract of employment not a part of law.

This teacher knew the rules and broke them, so she will be subject of a disciplinary hearing. The hearing will decide if she is to be warned, undergo re-training, reduced in (pay) grade or loose seniority. What is questioned is not her religion but her empathy and understanding.

The job of teachers isn't to proselytize, it's to teach! If you want to soapbox or preach go do it outside the classrooms on your own time. Leave other peoples kids out of it!

The problem people have with you isn't your beliefs, but your insistence on shoving them down everyone else's throats. Even other Christains don't want to have your fundamentalist nonsense forced upon them.

You show that you don't give a damn about anybody else's rights when you try to legislate your religious views into laws that affect everyone.

Well, TheGospelWitness' post is typical butthurt but the article is interesting. According to it, the teacher was fired after prozelytizing to a student once. She shouldn't havet done this, but talk about overreaction on the school/parents parts.

People need to grow the fuck up!

Democracy existed in some ancient cultures never connected to Christianity.
Democracy only (re)appeared in Europe after the churchs power was suppressed
The most free countries in the world are secular ones. The most repressive are religious regimes. Only every time and every case. Even communist states aren't any worse

Your story also states the teacher was REPEATEDLY told to stop. Your religion doesn't trump other systems, if that teacher can't stop preaching the he needs to find a new job

Free speech doesn't equate harasment. Your rights finish when the other people's rights begin.
