[Regarding the Burj Khalifa in Duba]
Let'em build it to the moon. Let'em build it to heaven. We all know what happened to the last bunch who thought it was a good idea to do the impossible and try to rise above a flood and be as high as G-d.
This time I don't think he will be quite as forgiving and just make them speak new languages... Something tells me He's gonna level that building along with every other modern day Ziggeraut, and mountain, and hill. Then again I would say that would be the least of the worlds worries when it happened.

Something tells me we might need to call Interpol about you, SPYDYR....
For some reasonw hen we were building the Empire State Building and whatnot, it was a sign from God about ow great and blessed we are. But now some Arabs are making an even bigger tower, they are cursed by God and this is the sign. Brilliant... just brilliant.

Then maybe you need some medication, because you are apparently unable to understand that the Tower of Babel story is fiction. Also, man has been building very big things, like the pyramids, for thousands of years, and they haven't been "leveled" by God yet.
God doesn't want tall buildings reaching high up into the sky, yet he's cool with the space program (which, if you didn't know, many fundies had a huge problem with)?
The ancients couldn't have built a structure much higher than the Great Pyramid (481 feet). They certainly couldn't have built one anywhere near that high with mud brick and bitumen. God would have known that. That's how we know the Tower of Babel story was invented by bronze age Arab goat herders and couldn't have come from God. Voyager 1 is currently about 10 billion miles out into space. Another spacecraft is currently orbiting Saturn. If God didn't stop those, why would He bother with some piddling little building?

Yeah, they left their footprints on the Moon.
The tallest freestanding structure in the world from 1975 to this year was the CN Tower, in Toronto.
We're still doing just fine, thank you.
Ziggeraut,n.
a. Sauerkraut?
b. Juggernaut?
c. Zigarette?
The Bent Pyramid pretty much demonstrates that with the tech & materials of the day, the base of a towering pile needs to be 1.5-times the height for any really massive pile.
Um, wasn't there a failed pyramid somewhere by the Nile, made of mud bricks?
I've been to New York City where I was in the Empire State Building from the 102 floor. The fiancee and I lived in Chicago where we LIVED over 200 ft off the ground on the 15th floor of a building when we where still dating. We went to the Sears (now Willis...) Tower and where around 1,350 ft off the ground.
We have been higher than our ancestors could even imagine, and that isn't even counting planes and the missions into space.
Heaven forbid there should ever be tall buildings ANYWHERE. Like, say, NYC.
Oh my, is he saying we brought 9/11 on ourselves by building the WTC up so high? Because that is pretty strongly implied by what I've read. WTF, Spydyr, seriously, WTF.
The Tower of Babel story is based on an actual historical even. An Assyrian king was rebuilding the main Ziggurat in Babylon (hence the name Babel) when there was an earthquake, and he took this as a sign from the gods (also note the plural there) that he shouldn't do this, and so they stopped work. This story ended up in the Jewish holy book during the Babylonian exile, along with the story of the Flood, and the Garden of Eden... in fact, most of the stories that you fundies hang onto so much.
However, if it was the ESB or the Twin Towers, or just a castle, well, it was a building. You never get enough of double standards.
The really funny part is, that while USA has been doing nothing with the hole in the ground left by the events of 9/11, Dubai, planned, built and opened Burj Khalifa. In New York, there is still just a huge gaping hole in the ground but USA is the best country in the world... In something, I just have no idea what in..
Hmm...the last time the tallest building in the world was Arab, it wasn't knocked down.
(It's still up by the way. The Malwiya in Samarra. It was a huge-ass minaret that couldn't actually be used for the purposes of a minaret anymore and basically just existed to tell the world how awesome the Abbassid caliphs were.)
Even if the biblical story about the Tower of Babel was based on truth (about men building a tower that fell, not about God striking it down and changing people's languages), I'm pretty sure that we have a lot better tower-building technology today than they did 6,000 years ago. And why would God hate anyone for building a tall building anyway, when we have airplanes that routinely fly far higher than the tallest building, and spacecraft which go outside the atmosphere?
Ok then, why did God not do the act that SPYDYR says that God would like to do to the rest of Humanity, in say 1890, when the first Skyscraper was built in Chicago...?
After all, said skyscraper is higher than 10 stories, due to it's steel internal load bearing frame....
Confused?
