There was a time when any kind of surgery was considered to be mutilating the body God gave a person. Lots of people died from surgically treatable injuries and diseases. Then anesthesia was developed, superstition was put aside, and the life expectancy increased.
Hmm...I guess that means that displeasing God makes him grant you a longer life.
