Quote# 68918

You say it is none of my business and that it is a non-issue, whereas everything I believe in says otherwise. We're talking about a lifestyle which I believe will cause a person to burn in Hell for eternity and you're saying it should be a non-issue to me? When will people realize that not everything in this world revolves around them alone? I care about people living a lifestyle God calls an abomination. I care about whether that lifestyle is taught to our kids as something that should be accepted. You want to be accepted? Stop practicing homosexuality. People who do wrong and then turn around and expect others to embrace them for it and even call it right never cease to amaze me.

"You say it is none of my business and that it is a non-issue, whereas everything I believe in says otherwise."

What you believe doesn't concern me greatly unless you can support your beliefs with actual reason.

"We're talking about a lifestyle which I believe will cause a person to burn in Hell for eternity and you're saying it should be a non-issue to me?"

Yes, though obviously you'll disagree. How's this: you agree that it's a non-issue to me and most other people and leave the topic alone until you can actually support your belief in Hell, a soul, your god, your religion or your apparent belief that what someone else does is any of your damned business.

"When will people realize that not everything in this world revolves around them alone?"

Says the guy shouting, "My unfounded beliefs are more important than your civil rights!"

"I care about people living a lifestyle God calls an abomination."

Why? Let god worry about it or, just maybe, do something about it himself. Your god is omnipotent; he doesn't need you to enforce his rules for him.

"I care about whether that lifestyle is taught to our kids as something that should be accepted."

Tolerance is bad! Baaad I say!

"You want to be accepted? Stop practicing homosexuality."

How does one "practice" homosexuality? Do you "practice" being heterosexual?

"People who do wrong and then turn around and expect others to embrace them for it and even call it right never cease to amaze me."

Me neither. Then again, homosexuality isn't wrong by any standards other than some ingrained (religious or otherwise) "ick" factor. If you don't like it, don't do it. Just because you personally don't like it gives you no right to say others can't do it since it's harming no one.

When will people realize that not everything in this world revolves around them alone?

Also, do you happen to know what your own holy book says about busybodies?

Hmm. The gays I know stop practicing homosexuality a long time ago. In fact, they pretty much got it right on the first attempt.

"You say it is none of my business and that it is a non-issue, whereas everything I believe in says otherwise."

That's what everyone who has no life of their own so they have to interfere with everyone else's lives say.

"We're talking about a lifestyle which I believe will cause a person to burn in Hell for eternity and you're saying it should be a non-issue to me?"

It's still none of your business. What makes you more qualified than the rest of us to decide what's best for everyone?

"When will people realize that not everything in this world revolves around them alone?"

Yes, when will you fundies realize that?

"I care about people living a lifestyle God calls an abomination."

So don't do it. Oh, and it's still none of your business.

"I care about whether that lifestyle is taught to our kids as something that should be accepted."

So do I, I don't want this country (or any country) raising a generation of hateful bigots.

"You want to be accepted? Stop practicing homosexuality."

You want to be accepted? Stop trying to make the world conform to your standards.

"People who do wrong and then turn around and expect others to embrace them for it and even call it right never cease to amaze me."

They're not doing wrong, they're just trying to live their lives. If you don't like it, that's your problem.

everything I believe in says otherwise

Everything you believe in is fairytale, nonexistant-diety horseshit.

That makes your point invalid and moot.

You say it is none of my business and that it is a non-issue, whereas everything I believe in says otherwise.

Then it's your beliefs which are the problem, not the issue.

We're talking about a lifestyle which I believe will cause a person to burn in Hell for eternity and you're saying it should be a non-issue to me?

People eating shrimp bothers you that much?

It should be a non - issue in much the same way that Hell is a non - place!

When will people realize that not everything in this world revolves around them alone?

Your religion says that the entire universe was built to revolve around you! Irony much?

I care about people living a lifestyle God calls an abomination.

You really have a bee in your bonnet about folks eating shrimp don't you?

I care about whether that lifestyle is taught to our kids as something that should be accepted.

Why because some bronze - aged desert dwellers found it distasteful? Yeah that's a really good basis for teaching kids morality.

You want to be accepted? Stop practicing homosexuality.

Oh so THAT'S the irrational, bronze age taboo your rambling on about.

People who do wrong and then turn around and expect others to embrace them for it and even call it right never cease to amaze me.

My thoughts exactly, which is why I won't tolerate bigoted little toe - rags like you for a nanosecond, now kindly fuck off!

Maybe once you quit calling homosexuality a "lifestyle" and consider the possibility that your god was invented by superstitious idiots, then we'll listen to you. Otherwise, shut the hell up.

"People who do wrong and then turn around and expect others to embrace them for it and even call it right never cease to amaze me."

Didn't Jesus practice embracing those who have done wrong...? ...Eh, whatever. What do I know? I don't even read the bible...

This (though presented in a somewhat less bible-y way) was basically the type of argument repeated in the debate class I had a while back. We were debating bills and a bill was brought up legalizing gay marriage.

To sum up the essential argument of some of the more religious:

"It bothers me and it bothers MY GOD. Therefore, it is wrong. And therefore, it is a crime. Therefore, it is like shooting someone. Because shooting someone is a crime, too. So, it should not be legal. Because getting married to someone with the same genitals as you is like murdering those of us who are bothered by it. I stand ready for cross examination."

And people actually listened and viewed this as a valid argument.

At which point, I would slam my forehead down on the desk and contemplate running around the city screaming, "WHAT IS REAL?!"

I have always wanted to experiment: Create two new countries - One that is governed entirely by conservatives (which of course include fundamentalists) and one that is entirely governed by liberals. Conservatopia and Liberatopia. Allow people from the U.S. (or, indeed, other countries) to go to which ever country they think that they'd prefer.

Anyone who doesn't want to go to either country can stay where they are.

Problem: Solved.

Would it be immature? Yes. Would it be effective? Probably yes. Then again, I wouldn't put it past the Conservatopians to try and boycott the lives of the Liberatopians...

They just can't (as with abortion and same-sex marriage) leave well enough alone, can they?

"When will people realize that not everything in this world revolves around them alone?"

Ask yourself that, and substitute your name for "people". And teach your own kids hate -- I can't stop you -- but you have no say for other kids.

'We're talking about a lifestyle which I believe will cause a person to burn in Hell for eternity and you're saying it should be a non-issue to me?'

Yup - last time I looked, America was NOT a fundy theocracy.

'I care about people living a lifestyle God calls an abomination. I care about whether that lifestyle is taught to our kids as something that should be accepted.'

No you don't fuckwit. Your kind has been harassing gays for years, even calling for their extermination in some instances.

'People who do wrong and then turn around and expect others to embrace them for it and even call it right never cease to amaze me.'

Tell that to fundies Paul Hill (oops, he's burning in HELL), Clayton Waagner, Scott Roeder, Shelly Shannon, Michael Griffin, James Charles Kopp, Eric Rudolph & John Salvi (oops, he's ALSO burning in HELL). Bloody hypocrites, one and all. Should rename himself, 'TheHypocrite'.

"You say it is none of my business and that it is a non-issue, whereas everything I believe in says otherwise."

Well you pretty clearly believe that you are the enforcer and interpreter of your God's will and that you're therefore entitled to berate people who neither did anything to you nor asked your opinion.

"We're talking about a lifestyle which I believe will cause a person to burn in Hell for eternity and you're saying it should be a non-issue to me?"

Yes. Yes I am.

"When will people realize that not everything in this world revolves around them alone?"
When indeed. Why won't everyone stop being so selfish and bow down to your will?
"I care about people living a lifestyle God calls an abomination."

Then don't live a lifestyle that your God calls and abomination. Go pray in your closet and shut the door like a good little sexually repressed fundie.

"I care about whether that lifestyle is taught to our kids as something that should be accepted. You want to be accepted? Stop practicing homosexuality. People who do wrong and then turn around and expect others to embrace them for it and even call it right never cease to amaze me."

Well when you say it that way it sounds so easy to stop! I think I'll give up heterosexualiy for the fun of it, just so I can switch back again! Maybe you can join in and give up breathing or mitosis.
