Quote# 68766

Regardless of what the media may say, Focus on the Family has no interest in promoting hatred toward homosexuals or any other group of our fellow human beings. We have not supported, and will never support, legislation aimed at depriving them of their basic constitutional rights — rights they share with every citizen.

[Later in the very same post...]

The effort to redefine the family, qualify for adoption, promote the homosexual lifestyle in the schools, etc., are objectives with which I disagree. And I will oppose them when the issues are raised. Does that make me a hatemonger? I think not.

Concerning the passage of Amendment 2 here in Colorado (which would have prohibited ordinances and legislation creating "special rights" for homosexuals, equating them with those needing civil rights protection), let me explain why we strongly favored that legislation. To understand our position, you must know that many Christians also feel they have been victimized by society's hostility to traditional religious views.

...

How would you and your homosexual companions feel if we, as Christians, began lobbying for special, protected legal status? How would you react if we asserted that we should be given a job and shielded from termination just because we are Christians? I can predict that you would fight such ordinances tooth and nail. Why?

You ruled the whole of Europe for 1500 years, isn't that a special status? Also, YOU ARE asking for special status, since you consider freedom of religion to be a crime when it protects something other than your own religion.

Christians are already protected as discrimination based on religion is not permitted. Gays are only asking for those very same rights based on sexual orientation. Actually, such a law would also add another level to Jimmy Dobson as it would be illegal to discriminate against him on the basis that he is straight. He'd still be an idiot, though.

Except that Christians basically have had special, protected legal status for that last 200 years in the United States alone.

This seems to be making the case that Christianity cannot be non-political. I would argue, therefore, if this is the case that there is no basis for the tax exemption on churches. They should be back-taxed right to when they were instituted, or to the founding of the US, whichever is the sooner.

Special legal status? You mean like not having to pay taxes, like being able to smoke marijuana or use other controlled substances when illegal for others, like ...

Wow. I mean, I could go on, but it would be lost on him.

"How would etc"? Isn't that EXACTLY what you are doing. So, where's the hypothetic issue?

Every human is equally important as the next, and should be treated with the same respect and kindess as anyone else.

End of story.

Uh... you've already got that protected legal status, dumbass. Religious belief has been a protected status for at least 20 years now. You can't be fired from a job because you are a Christian, no matter how often you like to cry about being persecuted.

I'm still confused about how gays promote the homosexual lifestyle. Do they just walk up to people randomly and whisper, "Try it, you'll like it"?

I've never before seen such unimaginable persecution perpetrated against such an innocent and ethical people as the fundamental cultists of America. The deprivation and cruelties of their day to day suffering brings one out in a cold sweat just to even think about the least of them. But the way they loftily maintain their dignity amid the continual sneering and taunting of a so called 'reality based crowd' is heartwarming and extremely uplifting. To hear them counter the lies, deceit and bigotry of these educated and normal troublemakers brings a tear to the eye. Oh! What a woeful situation we find ourselves in when a bunch of friendly fantasists are not allowed to impose their will over others not like them.

Okay so how long have you been in a coma Mr. Dobson?

A few things come to mind:

-Tax exempt status
-"Such and such organization does not discriminate based on religion"

Your churches get tax breaks... That's special status.

See they are asking for equal rights, if you get married as a heterosexual couple you gain all manner of rights. They just want those. Now what your suggesting is that we remove all those extra rights from heterosexual couples...

Henry VIII of England did a good thing when he seized Church land and property during the English Reformation and distributed it to those who would purchase it. This weakened the church and made it much less powerful in the political sphere.

We should take it one step further and revoke tax exemption for all religious institutions that seek to be politically involved.

Uh....perhaps you missed it. Christians ARE afforded special status idiot.

And wanting to marry the person you love isn't a 'Special status'. It's the same freakin one hetero folks have. Ya know, the one where most marriages only last about seven year? The privilege that allowed the word 'starter marriage' to enter the lexicon. THAT ONE
