because your mommy and daddy told you to, and the majority agree with you, and you arent smart enough to objectively examine it.

I write this to ask, "why would people "choose" to be a christian and live a lifestyle that is deraded ridiculed and made fun of?"
So when was the last time someone was lynched for being Christian?

yes, religion is usually not a choice, it's a matter of indoctrination

Well, yeah, why would gays choose to be Christians anyway, with all the built in homophobia?

Any time a christian tries telling me their religion is a burden I just laugh. Going to paradise while everyone you hater burns for eternity, being able to exempt yourself from ever providing a rational basis for your opinions by just saying "well I believe..." and being a member of the most influential group in America is not a burden in any way.

Choice?
"In 2000, scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, found that both men and women with index fingers of similar length to their ring fingers were more likely than average to be homosexual."

Do you choose the length of your fingers?

I know what you mean. Here in the good old US of A, 85% of the population is subjected to constant harassment from the remaining 15%.

Because there is a VAST gulf in terms of the intensity. Christians are only degraded in their own eyes, and even that only applies when they don't receive the preferential treatment they're used to. Furthermore, you are made fun of solely in jest, typically by other Christians.

'deraded'?
A fair question, indoctrination I can understand, but why would any rational adult choose to adopt any religion?

Last thing I knew, most Christians lived in cushiony suburban homes with jobs and a "traditional" family, free of ALL sins listed in the Bible since God automatically forgives them just because they are Christians. Must've changed since my last visit... durng thanksgiving. Maybe someone wisened up and finally decided to get rid of idiots like Blackwood who use religion to defend how they can't tolerate anyone who isn't exactly like them.

Good question! I hear ALL the time about Christian kids being bullied, or disowned by families, or being murdered, or killing themselves.
Actually Christian kids are bullied, the most vicious kids I met were the preachers kids, but they'd just smile nicely at their parents and the rest of us would get in trouble for making up lies about them. And adults bully/abuse their kids in Christian churchs all the time.
Disowned by families? Gay, Knocked up, hell all I did was ask the wrong questions.
Child murder is not only for the gays
The United States ranked eleventh for infants under 1 year killed, and fourth for those killed from 1 through 14 years (the latter case not necessarily involving filicide).[90] In the U.S. over six hundred children were killed by their parents in 1983.[91] In Canada 114 cases of child-murder by a parent were reported during 1964-1968.[92] Some of the cases that made news were those of Amy Grossberg and Brian Peterson, Genene Jones, Marybeth Tinning, Melissa Drexler, Dena Schlosser and Waneta Hoyt.
And many Christian children kill themselves because they've been taken to such a worthless place in life that they don't believe they could get into heaven anyway, so why continue living.
It's a sad state of affairs, but a lot of people are afraid to leave because it's better to be in an abusive relationship with Jesus, than to be out alone by yourself. Maybe that's why some of these people feel so persecuted, because they can't speak out. They just don't seem to realize that the persecutor is their Shepherd, not the outside world.

because belief isn't a choice either. It is a conclusion based on a combination of the information available to you and what your brain naturally deduces from it.
The "choice" you have is whether or not to be open-minded enough to challenge your own beliefs. Since one of your beliefs is that doing so would be a sin, I guess you're stuck in a bit of a rut there.

Yeah, I wonder why anyone would choose to be part of a community such as a church. It's almost exactly the same as choosing to have the chance of being ostracized and have less rights than other people.

When you get beaten up, thrown out of home, killed on the street for being christian, maybe I'll feel sorry for you. Eh, not really.

Can't say I feel I had much choice in becoming Catholic. It's how I was raised. I could choose to discontinue it, but I'd rather avoid the family scandal.
See how that works?
