It's called progress. When new evidence and ideas come in, we can create better theories. More accurate than taking stabs in the dark with ancient religions.
>Science =/= evolution
How the hell does that follow after everything else?

Science is a self correcting process you idiot. That is a STRENGTH, not a weakness.

Okay, 1: learn the difference between accept and except. 2: it was science that corrected those now ridiculous presumptions. You see, because it's peer reviewed, science can change and adapt in light of new evidence to better explain the natural world. It works because it's fallible. scientists aren't afraid to be wrong, in fact the whole process would fall apart if they were always right :)

What convinced ignorant people that the Earth was the center of the universe, even when careful observers had doubts? Religion: "It is written!" What eventually demonstrated that the universe was not geocentric, despite terrible threats from the devout? Science.

And can you guess what was used to prove geocentrism wrong? (I'm going to be nice and avoid asking who was against it.)

Is he trying to deny evolution, or trying to say science is wrong?

"Look at some of the crazy stuff scientists in the past believed in. Earth being in the center of the universe was perfectly logical, right? It was excepted science centuries ago"
Uh...pretty sure the whole Earth as the center of the universe is in the bible...still and that Galileo was persecuted for claiming otherwise.

"Scientists in the past" didn't know as much as we do and didn't have the instruments that we do. It's not at all surprising that they believed things we now find silly. That reflects more on us than them anyway for not taking their knowledge and tools into account.
And yes, evolution is accepted science, because evolution is a fact, it is observable. What could change in the future is our explanation of how evolution works. That's what evolutionary theory is about. So no, science =/= evolution, but evolution = science.

Earth being in the center of the universe was also supported by religion. It was accepted as fact not because of observations or tests, but because the Bible said so. Evolution, on the other hand, HAS been subjected to observations and tests.

We laugh at past generations for their faults and mistakes, and soon future generations will laugh at us.
Damn right, one day they'll look back on the times when the Abrahamic religions ruled the world and wonder how so many people could have been so gullible for so long...

But evolution = science! Nyah Nyah we have the fossils we win. I won't even touch the rest of the nonsense in this post, oh fuck I will, even though I'm sure someone else has already said it and done so more eloquently. It was your religious leaders (Christians, that is) that continued to insist that the Earth was the center of the solar system, not the other way around idiot. Thank you. :)

Back then people would believe all sorts of stupid shit without any evidence. As it stands, evolution is the best explanation we have for the diversity of life on our planet according to the evidence available to us.
And the word is "accepted", moron.

"Science and logic are fallible, just like every other thing we study."
That explains all those bible study groups, then.
The fact that science is self-correcting and allows for new hypothosies to be created, and old theories to be replaced with new ones is the reason why the scientific method is the best way to understand the world.
