[In response to "Some of the comments on this thread serve as evidence that laws protecting the rights of gays are sorely needed."]

They do not deserve nor should they get special treatment for their sexual deviancy. There is nothing that makes them special. I think we need a law that makes us all equal. Oh wait, we have that already. This is a load of bull stuff and I am surprised anyone is buying in to it. Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed. No one is born gay or lesbian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices. The Church says it is intrinsically disordered and I will not adjust my views from that because some politician's or group of liberal no it alls say so. I don't hate gays, I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else as well as shoving their sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now.

You're absolutely right, we shouldn't get special treatment. Good thing we aren't asking for it!

Oh wait, we have that already.

Aaaand that would be where you're wrong. No, no we don't. In my state, if I got a boyfriend, I could not marry him (or even get a civil union) because my state doesn't allow it. How is that equal? In my state, it is legal to fire me for being gay because there is no clause about sexual orientation in our anti-discrimination laws. How is that equal? And I haven't really looked into it, but I bet I can't adopt either. Oh, and although they can't really enforce this, sodomy is still illegal here too. That's right, even though I'm of legal age, if I had a loving partner that I stayed with for many years, it would technically be illegal for me to have consensual sex with him, simply because we'd both be men. How is that equal?

This is a load of bull stuff and I am surprised anyone is buying in to it.

That's what I just thinking about what you are writing.

Homosexuality is a mental disorder,

Wrong again. Not only has it been removed from the DMV, but the definition of mental disorder is not "something that mgrobertson79 thinks is weird." The term actually has a specific definition, which homosexuality does not fit. In order to be a mental disorder, it has to cause you distress. My depression is a mental disorder that I needed medication for, because it causes me distress to the point that I could barely function. Liking cock does not cause me distress. (Homophobia does, however.)

it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed

No, the "behavior" hasn't changed (how is a mental disorder a behavior, btw?), the people who wrote the DMV just finally got their heads out of their assholes long enough to realize that their bigoted designation was wrong, for the reasons I described above. I see your head is still firmly shoved up there, however.

No one is born gay or lesbian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices

You're right, it's totally a conscious choice. I decided that struggling with depression wasn't making my life hard enough so I decided to become gay too and have to deal with bigoted morons like you all the time, and live of fear of being beaten to death for my sexual orientation, and give up all those rights I would have had if I had stayed straight.

Moron.

The Church says it is intrinsically disordered and I will not adjust my views from that because some politician's or group of liberal no it alls say so.

The Church, politicians, groups of liberals.... what's missing from this picture? Oh, I know! It's YOURSELF. Try thinking for yourself.

Also, lol @ "no it alls"

I don't hate gays,

Yet you think we're mentally disturbed, and you wrote this whole paragraph about what's wrong with gay people.

I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else

Equal to everyone else =/= better than everybody else.

as well as shoving their sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now.

So, you don't hate gays, you just want us to stay in the closet and out of your sight because you're sick of looking at us. And yet, I'm sure you don't feel the same way about heterosexuals, even though they display their sexuality CONSTANTLY. Mmhmm, I'm sure you don't hate gays....

Um mgrobertson79, the debate about whether the catholic church is a force for good in the world is over. Had you contacted us earlier we would certainly have let you debate on Mr. Hitchens and Fry's team.

I'm not gay so I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that the "basic" sexual techniques are not that different, really.
Heterosexuals engage in oral sex, manual sex, vaginal sex and anal sex.
Not all use all techniques, but most use two or more.
Gays (the male ones) don't have a vagina at hand, so that one is out. But the other three are still available.
What is so deviant about not engaging in vaginal sex? Isn't deviant to do something else, something more than others?

Yeah, that's about when I "decided" to be bisexual... that is, I DIDN'T.

Getting married just like everyone else /= special rights.

Protecting someone from getting beaten/killed/otherwise discriminated against /= special rights.

They do not deserve nor should they get special treatment for their sexual deviancy.
We don't ask for special rights, though. We ask that the rights we all enjoy be expanded to include our own right to life and the pursuit of happines as well.

There is nothing that makes them special. I think we need a law that makes us all equal. Oh wait, we have that already.
Of course, since you don't get fucked over by it, it's perfectly fine.

This is a load of bull stuff and I am surprised anyone is buying in to it.
Yeah, that whole human rights thing is so overrated. how anyone can give compassion to a fellow human being is beyond me.

Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed.
It was unlisted as a mental disorder because it failed to meet the criteria as such. It does not harm the person, it does not harm those around them, and it does not impede our ability to live a full life. Or it wouldn't, anyways, if you weren't hellbent to insure we never reach anything approaching the status of being actual people.

No one is born gay or lesbian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices.
So...tell me when you chose to be straight. When you made a conscious, willful decision who you would be attracted to. I mean, if it was a choice, surely you could become gay, just to prove, it, right? Hell, even choose someone you have no attraction to, whatsoever, and choose to be attracted to them.

The Church says it is intrinsically disordered and I will not adjust my views from that because some politician's or group of liberal no it alls say so.
Great. So now tell me why we should abide by your views now. Why we should resign ourselves to second class citizenship, jest because you say so.

I don't hate gays, I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else...
So says the man placing himself above us simply because you happen to be straight, and religious. Holier than thou, anyone?

...as well as shoving their sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now.
You know what? It's not shoving our sexuality down your throats, it's refusing to become invisible to appease you. And it's rather telling that our mere presence, and refusal to be swept under the carpet constitutes "special treatment" by you.

I always want to ask assclowns like this why we would *choose* to deal with assholes like them.

And I would also like to challenge them to choose to be gay for a day. Suffice it to say they won't be able to.

I agree, they shouldn't get special treatment. They should have the same treatment as everybody, but that's not happening.

Oh wait, we have that already. This is a load of bull stuff and I am surprised anyone is buying in to it.

No we don't a have a law already.

In most states if your gay or lesbian you're banned from getting married, even if it's by the state and not the church. Then there where (are?) sodomy laws that make it illegal for them to even have consensual sex. Then on the federal level we have DOMA, and DADT.

That is the definition of second class citizen, where you have less rights than others.

Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed.

It's been removed as a mental disorder because it's not a fucking mental disorder. Science has advanced since the time they tacked it up, and they realized it wasn't so they took it off, thankfully.

No one is born gay or lesbian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices.

Tell me then. When was the day you chose to have sex with the person with a vagina over a penis? All the gay and lesbians that I know tell me they always felt different, one guy tells me how he found his father's stack of Hustler when he was about 13 and when he saw the woman fully nude, he felt nothing.

The Church says it is intrinsically disordered and I will not adjust my views from that because some politician's or group of liberal no it alls say so.

So if the Church told you say...That the Earth is in the center of the universe like they did 500 years ago then you would agree? Learn to think for yourself.

I don't hate gays,

Says the guy who claims that homosexuality is a mental disorder but at the same time a choice...

I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else as well as shoving their sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now.

None of the gay people I know act like they are better than anyone else, they just want to be treated the same as everybody else. Also what do you do you if have a problem with a man and women kissing in the park? Simple turn your head away, you can do the same with gays and lesbians. Nobody's forcing you to watch.

"They do not deserve nor should they get special treatment for their sexual deviancy. There is nothing that makes them special. I think we need a law that makes us all equal."

You're right, we shouldn't get special treatment. Isn't it great that we're not asking for it?It's actually the churches that get the special treament in America.

"I don't hate gays, I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else as well as shoving their sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now."

You know...if you take out that bit about sexuality then you'd have the exact thing that I said about fundies trying to make their bible the law of the land.

Religion is a choice of lifestyle and, as such, deserves no special protection under the law.

"Homosexuality is a mental disorder"

Religion is a mental disorder.

"No one is born gay or lesbian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices."

If one was born heterosexual, becoming a homosexual might BE a conscious choice. mgr, unless you were born homosexual, how can you be sure it's a choice?

Hm, wow. What "makes them special" is that people will kill gay people and discriminate against them for being gay. It's not a good kind of "special." If gay people were actually treated like "everyone else" then they wouldn't need hate crime laws and other laws that explicitly prevent people from discriminating against them. Because God knows good Christians like this would be discriminating against them queers left and right if they could, just like in recent history. And they do still too often get away with it.

"liberal no it alls"

lol Darn liberals. Noing everything.

@Man Called True

Catholics actually do have little pamphlets they get that spell these things out for them. But I as far as I know the church is fine with homosexuals receiving Communion as long as they don't have sex with members of the same gender.

I dont have a choice because I am hetero. Gays dont have a choice because of the reverse.
