[In response to "Some of the comments on this thread serve as evidence that laws protecting the rights of gays are sorely needed."]

They do not deserve nor should they get special treatment for their sexual deviancy. There is nothing that makes them special. I think we need a law that makes us all equal. Oh wait, we have that already. This is a load of bull stuff and I am surprised anyone is buying in to it. Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed. No one is born gay or lesbian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices. The Church says it is intrinsically disordered and I will not adjust my views from that because some politician's or group of liberal no it alls say so. I don't hate gays, I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else as well as shoving their sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now.

At this point I'm pretty sure all of these homophobes are working off some master document distributed at their Bible study meetings.

We need a homophobia equivalent to TalkOrigins and the creationist argument index.

I agree. We do not deserve, nor should we get special treatment for our sexuality. Yet you evil bastards have been burning us alive, wracking us to death, encouraging violence against us, and forbidding us equal rights before the law for thousands of years.
And do have a look at this video. You may currently be honestly unaware of how hypocritical you look when you say shit like that. At least take the opportunity to see yourself as others see you.

40 years ago someone with "teh gay" was considered mentally ill. We've learned a lot since then, and now, someone infected with Conservatism is considered mentally ill. Treatment is difficult, expensive, but it is possible. Religious fundaMENTALism is another form of conservatism - treatable with large doses of fact.

Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed.

And they also said that black slaves that ran away from their owners had a metal disorder...

"I think we need a law that makes us all equal. Oh wait, we have that already."

Then why do churches who interfere with politics get tax-exempt status?

"Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed."

Yes because scientists couldn't have learned more about it as time goes by.

No, the orientation isn't a disorder. Some of the behaviors associated with homosexuality, and heterosexuality are quite dangerous however.

"No one is born gay or lesbian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices."

Okay, when did you make the concious choice to be attracted to the opposite sex?

Could I see a respected medical source that states this?

"The Church says it is intrinsically disordered and I will not adjust my views from that because some politician's or group of liberal no it alls say so."

Unless the Church changes their views right? The same church that abuses the term intrinsically evil by using it to describe consenting unwed couples who simply live together. The same church that states the common act of masturbating is a disorder and that condoms spread STDs.

"I don't hate gays, I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else as well as shoving their sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now."

Many can't even get the same legal status as a straight couple. You're the ones forcing your religion and beliefs onto them. Fighting for equal treatment couplewise is not shoving sexuality down your throat.

No one is born christian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices. The Church is intrinsically disordered and I will not adjust my views from that because some child molesters or group of christianists no it alls say so. I don't hate christianists, I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else as well as shoving their fundiness on the world, it's beyond old now.

Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago

Until about 100 years ago, less in some places, the female sex drive was also effectively considered a mental disorder. What's your point?

"Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago"

Someone has apparently been in a coma since for 36 years: The American Psychiatric Association and American Psychological Association declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1973 and 1975 respectively.

So which is it, is it a mental disorder or is it a choice? Do these people seriously think it's both? I have Asperger's, did I choose to have that too?

Oh wait, we have that already. This is a load of bull stuff and I am surprised anyone is buying in to it. Clerical deviancy is a mental disorder, it should be listed as such, and nothing with the behavior has changed. No one is born a priest or a bishop, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices. The Church says it is intrinsically holy orders and I will not adjust my views from that because some politician's or group of liberal no it alls say so. I don't hate clergy, I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else as well as shoving their warped sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now.

FIXED

[My view especially in the aftermath of the release on Clerical Sexual Abuse in the Diocese of Dublin last week. It is a catalogue of criminality and concealment of crime from top to bottom. And the Vatican is directly implicated in it too.]

"They do not deserve nor should they get special treatment for their sexual deviancy."

Since it's considered to be a completely normal part of human sexuality it can't be a deviancy, thus they can't be getting "special treatment" for it. What they do want is equal treatment.

"There is nothing that makes them special."

Nor is there anything that makes you special. Or the Church. Yet both you and, in particular the Church, expect and demand special treatment for your delusional beliefs.

"I think we need a law that makes us all equal."

That's sort of what they're after you moron.

"Oh wait, we have that already."

Yeah? Where?

"This is a load of bull stuff and I am surprised anyone is buying in to it. Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed."

Talking to people who aren't there, believing in fantastical things that violate all known laws of physics and biology and claiming that you're eating the body and blood of a dead god actually could be classified as a mental disorder, you know.

"No one is born gay or lesbian, it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired though those choices."

Be gay then. Ten minutes should be enough. Go on, find someone of your own sex to be attractive enough that the thought of having any sort of sexual contact with them is not only highly appealing but also desirable.

Yeah. Didn't think you could do it.

"The Church says it is intrinsically disordered and I will not adjust my views from that because some politician's or group of liberal no it alls say so."

And we all know how the Church is completely infallible and has never, [i]not one fucking time[i], ever been wrong about anything it has ever claimed in its entire existence.

"I don't hate gays, I only wish they would stop acting like they are better than everyone else as well as shoving their sexuality on the world, it's beyond old now."

Aren't you the one who thinks they're among the god's special chosen few who will get into heaven? Aren't you a member of one of the largest groups in the world who appears to like nothing more than telling everyone else what they should be doing because you think you know what's best for everyone?

With attitudes like those coming from this guy, you can see how appealing a choice homosexuality must be, right?

They do not deserve nor should they get special treatment for their intellectual deviancy. There is nothing that makes them special. I think we need a law that makes us all equal. This is a load of bull stuff and I'm surprised that anyone is buying into it.
The earth is flat. It was listed as such until about 500 years ago and nothing about the earth has changed.
No one is born on a round earth; it is a conscious choice made and a habit acquired through that choice to believe that you live on an oblate spheroid.
The Church said that it was flat and I will not adjust my views from that because of evidence.
I don't hate those who accept the round-earth *theory*; I only wish they would stop acting like they are more knowledgeable than everyone else as well as enforcing their view of the world on everyone else. It's beyond old now.

I think we need a law that makes us all equal. Oh wait, we have that already.

If homosexuals had equal rights, then when one partner is in the hospital for something serious, the other would be able to be by his side all the time able to give consent for medical procedures, same as for heterosexual partners. Or they would be able to collect the partner's pension when the partner passes away.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, I haven't even gotten to the issue of them being able to hold hands or display affection in public without getting assaulted by hateful idiots with delusions of religious superiority.
They do not have equal rights.

"Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed."

And 100 years ago they would intentionally cut you open to get the bad blood out when you were sick. Nothing has changed about being sick, so why don't we still do that?

Right. So mental disorders are a conscious choice? Tell that to my schizophrenic cousin, you fucking idiot.

Oh yeah? Try getting spouse benefits from Social Security or inheriting your dead partner's 401(k). Try getting medical coverage on your spouse's insurance or adopting your partner's children when your partner dies, even though they've lived with you all their lives.

So you're going to stop campaigning for special negative treatment for us? Didn't think so.

Homosexuality is a mental disorder, it was listed as such until about 40 years ago and nothing with the behavior has changed.

Doubting the validity of Communism used to be treated as a mental disorder in Communist countries. Also, many of your saints were plainly mentally ill.
