[Comment in response to a poll question: "Do you believe in evolution?"]
Hmm, we should define the meaning of evolution here:
a.) Change from bacteria to bacteria or virus to virus
b.) Change from bacteria to bacteriologist or virus to virologist
I am not against the first definition. However, I am against the second definition.
The first definition is usually called mutation. It is scientific and observable.
The second definition is non-observable and non-scientific as there is no evidence to it.
The key differences:
a.) The first definition: there is no additional information in the genome (in fact, most of the time, it is loss of information in the genome)
b.) The second definition: there is additional information in the genome.
a.) The first definition does not violate second law of thermodynamics.
b.) The second definition violates second law of thermodynamics (how can ordered structure-especially in terms of stereochemistry-such as DNA and enzyme arise from a pool of blind chemicals?)

Through the introduction of energy. For the Earth, this is not only residual energy from when it was spun off the Sun but also from direct radiation from the same. On a cosmic level, this energy originally came from the Big Bang.
Remember Carl Sagan's doctorial experiment where he recreated an early-Earth's atmosphere and hit it with electric sparks to simulate lightning? The result was amino acids and other organic compounds.

WTF is it with anti-evolutionists and the second law of thermodynamics? Why would it violate the 2nd LoT for a single-celled organism to mutate into a multi-celled organism?

ALL evolution claims, at its base, is that life has changed over time. This can be proven by fossil records being in a certain order. The timeline in which it occured over does not matter. The method used to produce this effect does not matter. If life changed, regardless of reason, then evolution is true.

If only there were a source of energy outside of the earth continuously pumping energy at the earth. Let me think on it for a minute...

Jefri Sanusi Teguh, next time you go outdoors, stop for a second, lift your head up toward the sky. Notice that big, bright yellow kind of circle in the sky? It's called The Sun, it's a star that fuses hydrogen and emits a whole damn lot of energy. After a few minutes under the light from this star, you may notice you are getting warmer. Now, think about the second law of thermodynamics. Sun puts energy onto the Earth hence it is not a closed system and 2nd law of Thermodynamics is not applicable..
Fucking moron!

What additions to the genome are needed to go from a chimp to a human? One study actually suggests that chimps have undergone more mutations than humans since the last common ancestor.
Mutations of bacteria involve additional information. How else would bacteria develop the ability to digest nylon chemicals (which didn't exist until 1938)?

The definition of evolution is "a change in allele frequency over time" (in a population), which neatly covers all 'levels' of evolution.
And give up on the thermodynamics already. A living body is not by any means a closed system.

Yes, the second definition is non-observable and non-scientific because viruses aren't alive and we didn't evolve from modern bacteria. Your confusion stems from the fact that you don't understand biology.
