"I would rather you commit suicide than have you leave Love In Action wanting to return to the gay lifestyle. In a physical death you could still have a spiritual resurrection; whereas, returning to homosexuality you are yielding yourself to a spiritual death from which there is no recovery." --The Final Indoctrination from John Smid, Director, Love In Action (LIA), San Rafael's "ex-gay" clan.

@emau99, jsonitsac: It depends. In the denomination I grew up in it's a sin, since it's supposedly usurping God's right to choose who lives and dies (never mind that God's apparently not powerful enough to prevent it or that maybe that's how God would choose for a given person to die), but it's not completely unforgiveable.
As for John Smid, you're a fucking bastard. These people have had enough crap from people like you already, and now you're telling them to kill themselves if they just can't deny who they really are?
"Ex gay" fundies, truly the saddest of a sad bunch.
Edit: Actually, probably on equal footing with the "born again virgins."
I would rather you commit suicide than have you leave Love In Action wanting to return to the gay lifestyle.
Of course you would. Better dead than gay? That is what you are advocating after all. Why is it I have a bad feeling that sooner or latter either you or one of your members will take it upon themselves to remove those who leave your "ex-gay" movement from the population.
In a physical death you could still have a spiritual resurrection;
Did you miss the part of the bible the lists suicide as a mortal sin and an offense to "god" that would send a person to hell?
whereas, returning to homosexuality you are yielding yourself to a spiritual death from which there is no recovery
Chapter & Verse? Oh, that's right... You just made that up to scare the gay away, right? You're misleading people who are already vunerable, dealing with sexual identity disorder and self-loathing, with a theology that youy are just making up as you go along, and on top of that you are telling them that if they return to homosexual activity that they should kill themselves so that "god" will still love them. You are a despicable human being. I am disgusted and revolted beyond belief by your careless and downright criminal attitude towards vunerable young people and their well being.
I think this really translates into: I don't want to lose the (probably) enormous fees your parents are paying me, and I'll say anything to keep you here, even if it fucks you up even worse than I already have.
Any parent who sent their kids to that program need to be charged with child abuse.
You would rather people kill themselves instead of leaving a program that tells people to hate themselves for who they are and makes them develop and form an unhappy and unhealthy mentality for the rest of their lives?! I do not say this often, but you, sir, are a sick fuck!
Actually, suicide is a sin too. So no, you're going directly to Hell. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.
I went to Catholic grade school, and the stance I learned was the suicide is the murder of oneself, and as you die with the mortal sin of murder on your soul, I highly doubt it would allow for any spiritual resurrection.
I don't know if this is true (or do I? dun dun dun), but either way, suicide is a solution to nothing, jackass.

Because teh ghay is just so nasty and icky I'd rather you were dead than see on top...or, gasp, on the bottom!

My invisible imaginary friend who "embodies love and forgiveness" tells me that if you go back to being gay that you will be burned and tortured endlessly throughout all the rest of eternity. Doesn't that seem like a fair punishment for being sexually attracted to someone else of your own gender?
Honestly, you should take your pyschotic god and shove him up your ass...I wouldn't worship him even IF my immortal soul depended on it.
@the christian troll
"Gay marriage is immoral."
Then your morals are bad. Try getting them through empathy for your fellow humans, and not from some bronze-age goatherds.
Suicide is bad because you don't have time to be forgiven for the sin of killing yourself. Being gay is something you can still be forgiven for. Mass murder is something you can still be forgiven for. Simply put, anything except suicide and rejecting the holy spirit are forgiveable. So why do immoral acts matter at all? If Jesus dies for your sins, make it worth his while. Make sure you have lots of sins for Jesus to have died for!
> a spiritual death from which there is no recovery.
If it's a spiritual "death" from which there's "no recovery", how exactly - and why - do you claim to have recovered from it?
Oh, to believe again in theology as clear as purest mud...
Yeah, thats some real "love in action" there buddy.
@ The christian troll: Republican marriage is immoral. Why do we need it? Maybe we should be legalizing bestiality and polygamy?
Oh by the way, polygamy is a-okay according to your god.
He would rather his clients commit suicide than leave his program? First of all, making that statement is a huge violation of clinical ethics. More importantly though, if some one actually takes him up on this, he has opened himself for civil and probably criminal liability as well (just like some one yelling "jump" to a person on a ledge).
And still fundamentalists claim to hold the moral high ground in this country. Their capacity for self delusion truly knows no bounds!
Confused?
