I'm not in favor of mandatory participation in anything either, because our idiotic government always sets the bar for financial assistance so low no one with an income of over $40 per month can qualify. however, a fine on you for non-coverage wouldn't be for you beliefs, but for saying you don't "believe" in healthcare until you actually get very, very sick, show up at the Energency Room, rack up tens of thousands of dollars in bills, and the rest of the taxpayers get stuck with paying for your delusion.

I didn't know that not having medical insurance is something it's possible to "not believe in". Obviously any sane person who can afford health insurance is damn well going to have it. Young, supposedly health people get cancer, have heart attacks, aneurisms, etc. Health insurance is an expensive item, but someone who has a serious medical condition and doesn't have it is totally fucked in this country.

The problem is that under current law, everyone has health care, in the sense that when someone is seriously sick or injured, a hospital can't refuse treatment simply because the person can't pay. So if some moron decides he doesn't want health insurance and then cuts his finger off with a chainsaw, the rest of us have to pay for it. Whole hospitals have been put out of business in poor neighborhoods because of too many welfare patients.

What? I know some pretty fundy people but they all think we should take advantage of health care and it's silly not to.
Meh. Have a waiver for these wierdos that say they personally don't want care (only applicable to adults, and not any minors in their care), and since they refuse care they also waive their right to any sort of legal action that they may desire to pursue as a result of their lack of care (other than to change their mind about wanting care).
