I'm odd. When I was a christian, I did NOT want to get raptured. I wanted to stick around for the tribulation. I wanted to fight this oppressive totaltarianistic regime. Confirming my belief that rapturists are just cowards.

What the fuck is with all this starving to death bullshit? Are they really so stupid they don't know how to plant a seed? How to rig a fishing pole? How to set a small snare? Hell most grouse you can walk up to and bonk over the head.

"They freaked me out of my mind."
As opposed to, say, freaking you out of... what?
"I remember even being so afraid, so scared that God was going to take me through this time that I would sit up late at night asking God to kill me before the year 2008."
That's a god worth worshipping? A god one has to beg not to kill you?
"Not exactly the brightest future for a ten-year old."
Not exactly the brightest future for anyone, of course, I can't imagine you were the brightest ten-year old either.

That's why all organised religions try to get them while they're young. It's worked for millenia.

...so here it is 2009, and you still have your head connected to the rest of your body. That god of yours, such a kidder.

No wonder these people are so freaked out over Harry Potter. They believe everything they read.

Your "years of 4th grade"?
When you were ten?
So you had failed at least one grade... or two.
And child in a death cult.....

And the christian right thinks violent video games and sex on tv is the problem. Here was a child litterally begging for god to kill him because he thought the things he read in a fantasy novel series were real. I wonder how often he thought about killing himself? What a horrible childhood. The writers of those books should be ashamed of themselves. Its ok to write scary stories, but dont tell the children the stories are going to come true!

For me it was Ender's Game. That book really fucked me in the head when I read it... never even heard of the Left Behind stuff until coming here. Wait, you took it seriously?
I don't think religion is child abuse. I think you should bring a child up in a religion (not a cultish one, please) so they have context and foundation for belief. When they reach teenagerhood they get to choose their path(s) or even lack thereof. I have run into too many militant anti-religion and anti-belief people who have never even bothered to understand what they are rallying against. It is quite another thing to disagree and argue against something you've at least had some experience with beyond the kind of junk we read here or get from the news.

Hence the reason why children shouldn't be exposed to this type of religious thinking.

Religion is just so unnecessary in a child's upbringing. Bring your kid up and teach them about religion the same way you teach them about mighty thor or captain planet, as fiction and myth. Then if they buy into a religion at some later stage at least they made an informed decision for themselves.

I was thinking much the same thing. I thought these people were supposed to be so self-sufficient and homesteadery.

Now that's some f**ked up sh*t right there, yes sir. Sounds like anonymous was raped by his pastor as a young kid, causing him irreparable mental damage which manifest itself as an irrational fear of mythical old world stories. I'd say get this child some STRONG medication and a very good psychologist, but in reality, he or she might be better served being locked up in an institution so that at least any future children will be spared the trauma of indoctrination with this kind of crazy.

"During my years of 4th grade when I was about ten, the whole Left Behind series was all the rage. So I read them. They freaked me out of my mind."
So did the "GooseBumps" series for a lot of kids, but somehow, they still figured they were fictional too, and grew up.
