[Trying to prove that humans aren't animals.]
I consider the metaphysical as well. We have a soul that keeps us in the likeness of God. Animals do not.
Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either.

I've got soul,
but I'm not a soldier.
Try telling that to my leopard gecko - she has her own internet following, who have added the honorific "HRH" to her name, and the time we took her to the vet she wouldn't let anyone put the lid on her box because she was getting too much attention and boy was she playing THAT one up.
I'm not entirely sure about the soul thing, at least, if the soul gives a personality. And I have REPTILES, it is one thing to say that about man's best friend.
Oh, and insect biology fail.
Duh. Insects are a kind of rock. Prob'ly sez that in the Babble. They're four-legged rocks, too.
Oh, and demonstrate to me:
1. The existence of a human soul;
2. Evidence of its likeness to God;
3. The existence of your favorite God; and
4. Evidence or at least a line of logical reasoning that animals do not also have souls.
I'll give you a little while to work on that.
We have a soul only because YOU say so, You declare it by fiat then will tolerate no discussion of the matter. There is no evidence, NONE, that says we humans possess any sort of internal spirit, something that is seperate from our physical body, and something that other animals do not have.
Therefore, as usual, you fail.
"We have a soul that keeps us in the likeness of God."
Unsupported assertion, evidence please.
"Animals do not."
Unsupported assertion, evidence please.
"Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either."
Gross ignorance, get an education.
" We have a soul that keeps us in the likeness of God."
Show me this soul.
"Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either."
So are they vegetables or minerals?
"I consider the metaphysical as well."
How about we stick to real science?
"We have a soul that keeps us in the likeness of God. Animals do not."
Wonderful. Now show evidence that this is the case and that it actually distinguishes us in some manner that would require us to be classified differently.
"Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either."
No? Then what are they? Wait, don't tell me, they're not "animals" they're "insects", right?
Fucking moron.
"I consider the metaphysical as well."
So, in a way of speaking, you want us consider aspects that are completely unobservable, unevidenced, and based in incredibly old, baseless speculation that is fast becoming "not even wrong" in light of ever-increasing information of the world that we can observe? I think that you'll forgive me if I just respond with hysterical laughter.
Also, insects are, in fact, animals. So, you fail.
Science does not care about your soul. Science can do nothing to prove the soul so it does not give a damn about it. So your definition is moot.
Not that it matters, since you're a complete idiot. Try looking up the definition of "animal" and maybe you'll suddenly find out that insects are indeed animals, moron.
So my cat won't get to heaven? Fuck god, up the ass! If heaven's real Scratchy better be their waiting for me to come cuddle him, otherwise I'd choose hell, even if allowed Heaven.
1. Either we all have souls, including them, or no one does. And from what I have personally experienced I feel comfortable in saying that animals DO indeed have souls.
2. Insects are part of the animal kingdom, fucking moron.
Sorry, not gonna work.
The soul, if we have it, is the mind (the part of our brain that seems to be more than the sum of its parts), and, get this, there are animals that have that too (difference of degree, not kind).
Insects are animals, part of the class Insecta, Phylum Metazoa. They also fit the dictionary definition for animal (excepting the description of the old use of animal to mean mammals only, which is old).
The L: "I was taught on one of those and didn't learn two-kingdom taxonomy was obsolete until college."
That's pretty bad. They're still teaching 5 kingdom at my local high schools, but at least that's a little more current. I didn't have too much trouble relearning domains (and apparently now there's some new supergroup for animals and fungi) but I know it had to be frustrating for a lot of my classmates.
Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either.
Huh?
ETA: Ecclesiastes 3:18-19
...and for a second there I was going to criticize your attempt to argue in a material argument with a metaphysical concept, but then...
worst science fail all week. congratulations.
How old are you? I was learning about insects in second grade.
Religion should be declared a controlled substance, like asbestos.
"Animals do not."
And you would know this, how?
And yes, insects are a type of animal.
"Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either."
So, unlike all the other fish, amphibians, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals, insects are equal to we humans? Seeing as you fundies are always banging on about how we're different to every other lifeform on the planet.
So Bill Bailey's song "Insect Nation" is a prophecy of what is to come, eh?

Amirite?
What evidence is there that we have a soul? What is God like? What evidence is there that animals don't have a soul?
My cats definitely have different personalities, and perceive it when I'm sad or lonely.
So, what are insects then? Fungi? Algae?
Not all insects are self-aware enough to have a will to live. There might well be plants with a stronger will to live than ants have.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
