I imagine a scenario where we learn that those who weren't saved weren't "real". What I mean is that I view the world as a kind of tester/simulator. The elect are put into the simulator to develop and test their souls. Those around us that are not saved are part of the simulation. They seem real to us, but in the end they turn out not to be.
Nothing in scripture supports this, but this is how I took the verses about the potter creating vessels for ignoble purposes and some for noble purposes.

As a potter, may I just quickly say that pottery made for ignoble purposes (such as the mundane ceramic toilet bowl) are still real, and you really should be very glad of that. It's the 'ignoble' pot that allows you to live freely and not drown in your own sh*t.

In the same thread, and in response to twinkle;
'A very interesting opinion, but I must say that I strongly disagree with this. I respect your interpretation of scripture, please don't take this post as an attack. But, if your scenario were true, this would mean that unsaved people are not fully human. In my humble opinion, this is every bit as wrong as declaring that a person of a different skin color is not fully human. Even more importantly, once we dehumanize them, we could cease to bring them to Christ, thereby ignoring the command of Jesus. Also, I cannot believe that my mother and father are "not real" in any sense. Lost sinners, yes, but every bit as real as I am.
Besides, when a person gets saved, wouldn't this mean that they suddenly, magically become "real?"
I'm sorry, you are fully entitled to your beliefs, but I just see to many issues with it.' (posted by KingdomSeeker)
Nice to see at least one poster on their who doesn't think anyone different is inhuman.

Naw, that would totally ruin the buzz your friends expect to get when they sit up in heaven, laughing at all the people who actually enjoyed life and now have to suffer through the tribulation.
And what would be the point of the rapture without that?
