Just because a concept is mentioned in the Bible doesn't meant that's the first mention of it in the history of civilization; that's a ridiculous statement. Quite a few ancient civilizations would like a word with you.

So... this means that reading the bible is akin to taking Prozac, could you please list the side effects, and recommended dosage?

Well, I'm truly happy and at peace with myself. And I'm an Atheist. How do you explain away that?? Oh, I know...even if Atheists SAY they're happy, they couldn't possibly be truly happy without God. Pfffftt...you fuckers are so predictable.

Wow. I mean, I know they think that they invented everything good (easy when the world is only 6000 years old) but... happiness? Really? Christianity has just brought us war, torture, persecution, and a really unhealthy view of human sexuality.
I think that inventions that aided the development of modern sanitation and medicine helped make people happy more. Or maybe painkillers. Or the idea that people, even them godless heathinz, have rights.
There may be something to this, though: Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge. And, as we all know, ignorance is bliss! Maybe this wonderful loving god just wants to make us happy by keeping us ignorant, mindless and obedient. Sure explains why these fundies are always so happy and cheerf--OH WAIT. =P

The word "happiness" doesn't appear in the KJ Bible. "Happy" appears multiple times, starting in Genesis, which predates Christianity by at least 1,200 years. The Bible says nothing about Adam and Eve being "happy" in the garden. The first one who was "happy" was Leah.

Sorry, The earlyest reference to the concept of happiness is from a pre-dynastic Egyptian text that predates your bible by over 2500 years.
And most atheists are quite happy people

I assure you, the concept of happiness is as old as humanity, and definitely older then the Bible.

Don't know why this is such an unusual statement. I mean, Christians are really good at altering the definitions of words to fit their needs; why is this any different?

Yahtards, did you know that many concepts such as happiness, gods, morality and law were in place long before your cosmic Jewish zombie was ever even thought of?
I thought not. Get off Yahtard Answers and go read a book, kiddos.

I've read the bible, there's no good news in it. Good news would be your god not being a prick and actually using his power to give us a great life, instead of punishing us for shit he made up.

Well that proves it. His argument is rock solid, I don't see any way around it. I must be truly unhappy as an atheist.

Atheists did you know happiness is a Christian concept?
No it isn't. I swear... you people aren't even trying to make your Lying for Jesus(TM) slightly plausible anymore.
So for all the atheists who claim to be happy I have news for you
I don't "claim" to be happy, I am happy.
Happiness and the concept of happiness was first mentioned in the Bible.
And you know this how? Have you read every single prebiblical texts, including those that no longer exist? And for that matter, how is it that non christian societies such as the ancient chinese had this concept long before their exposure to christianity or the existence of christianity?
Adam and Eve were happy in the Garden of Eden until they broke GOD's law and ate from the tree of forbidden fruit.
Adam and Eve = Old Testament. That would make hapiness a Jewish concept that was either adopted or stolen by early christians. Hapiness is most certainly not an exclusivly christian concept and to claim otherwise is completly laughable
Happiness = GOD
Unhappiness = rejection of GOD's laws= atheism
You can define hapiness however you like as it pertains to yourself. You don't get to define what hapiness is to me or anybody else.
Get happy and get with the Good News!
One man's "good news" is anothers guide to genocide and bigotry.

The Chinese had gods of happiness centuries before your JC reputedly came on the scene, also I guess the classical Greeks, ancient Celts and Romans were complete party - poopers, emos of the ancient world eh?
While where on the topic of Romans didn't most "fun" activities get banned after the Christians took over? Those old Christian dark ages, those were the days. Starving in filthy rat - infested hovels with the plague while the local priest burns your grandma and the local lord rapes your wife, what a blast that would have been.
