Quote# 60329

I think they confuse love thy neighbor with what the Bible says about the subject.

Just like in the hippie generation, love , love, love.

Apperantly they're talking about gay marriage.
It's just a fundie trying to be clever.

It's a censure of Christian anti-anti-gay sentiment. I.e., it's anti-anti-anti-gay.

More importantly:
Leviticus 19:18
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

1 Corinthians 13
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

You know, it's really not that hard to believe in the Bible and respect other people. If you insist on taking the Bible literally, let it guide your own life. But it is an important part of Biblical lessons that it's not humans' job to judge other humans' but God's (or whatever), so really, to follow your beliefs you should STFU about lifestyles that "go against what you believe in" and let this God you're convinced is real and true to his word deal with it when the time comes. It's rather anti-Christian to enforce the Bible's rules upon other people.

Is he/she talking about All You Need is Love?

Sometimes I think you can actually judge a person's moral strength by the opinions they hold on the Beatles (and, to a lesser extent, John Lennon's solo career). Also sometimes I go on random tangents that have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:43-44, bitch)

...And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Matthew 22:39)

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Galatians 5:14)

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well (James 2:8)

Dear 4everHis,

For earworming me with a fucking Beatles song- and one of their more insipid ones at that- I hereby sentence you to a lifetime of incurable jock itch.

Yours truly,

I'd rather chill with hippies than fundies.

In fact, hippies are fucking awesome. Most of them are pretty mellow and kindhearted and know some wicked tofu recipes.

So, love thy neighbour, comes with a list of provisos, does it? Must be in one of those secret bibles only True Christians(tm) get to see.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" is pretty self-explanatory, though, isn't it? Jesus didn't say, "Unless the person is gay, in which case go ahead and pummel him".

Dude, don't knock hippies. I live in a city of them and it's fucking awesome.

Note: Also, some radicals who blew up a army building during Vietnam also live here. A convicted terrorist runs a juice stand downtown. God I love Madison.
