Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks. Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate's free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.

"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

So, let me get this straight, you have the right to free speech, but this same right doesn't apply to "mainstream media"?

Free speech means that you can insult people and other people can talk about how you insulted those people. If you could negatively campaign and reporters couldn't report on the fact that you were negatively campaigning, then speech would not be free.

You don't have the right to ask questions without being in turn questioned by the media. You do have the right to ask questions without being charged with crimes.

If she's allowed to publicly butcher English into disjointed sentence fragments thrown together with only the vaguest semblance of an overarching theme, then everyone else is allowed to ask her questions about it, such as "Why do you do that to the English language? Did you see it murder your pet puppy as a child? Seriously, what the hell?"

It's also her First Amendment right to spend a quarter of a million dollars on clothes for a month and a half long campaign. And to try to fire librarians for not banning books.
