[About CT's decision to overturn ban on homosexuality]

This is tyranny! A 5-4 decision. Our courts are out of control. If Obama gets elected it's just going to get worse. Several supreme court justices will be running to the retirement line. If Obama gets elected, it will literally be the end of America!

Oh wow. If Obama wins this election, one of the first things I'm going to do is browse various websites to see what they'll say. This forum is one of them.

Tyranny? How is that tyranny?

Today in a class that focuses on genocide and related topics brought up how the anti-gay rhetoric (the End of America OH NOES) is pretty similar to what it takes to inspire mass murder.

I'll bet "Brown v. Board of Education" was judicial tyranny to them, too. And if it had gone 5-4 the other way, don't you know, those judges would have been godly and wonderful.

But slight comment on the comment--homosexuality is and was perfectly legal there, at least as far as identifying as L, G, or B and having sex. What was legalized was same-sex marriage.

Yes, it's tyranny. A majority vote! Why, how dare people base their statures on a democratic vote-based electoral process! Don't you know that voting is the very definition of tyranny??

"supreme court justices will be running to the retirement line."

Which is another very good reason to vote for Obama.

Oh noez!! Other people are getting the right to do something that totally does not affect you in any way, shape, or form!! Christians are being persecuted, yet again!

It's funny how Boy Scouts v. Dale wasn't judicial tyranny.

That's not tyranny, that's democracy working as it ought to.

"Our courts are out of control."

I know. How dare they interpret what is right and wrong by precedent of the Constitution. The status quo is always right, especially if imposed by mob rule.

Tyranny? Really? Are they forcing you to marry someone of the same sex?

Oh God help us! The courts are actually upholding the constitution! What is America coming to? Oh what a world...[/sarcastic melodrama]

Does it make me a bad person that my first thought was, "Good!"?

Ha! I was waiting for bitching about the Connecticut verdict to show up. I'm surprised it took this long.

If Obama gets elected, it will literally be the end of America!

The world has existed for billions of years without "America" and has done just fine.

The whole function of the courts in our government is to put a check on the legislature and governor/president to prevent them from creating and enacting laws that violate citizens' rights, violate the Constitution (whether state or federal), or pretty much do anything else to abuse their law-making or law-enacting powers.

So all these justices did, was review the Connecticut Constitution, found that the prohibition of gay marriage was in conflict with the Constitution, and ruled therefore that the prohibition was unconstitutional.

In other words, THEY DID THEIR JOB.

Yes, same-sex marriage is now legal in Connecticut. My friend and his partner took advantage of the court's decision and were married on the first day. Their picture ran with the Hartford Courant's story on it. They look as happy as any other couple would be and so does their daughter. Why would any decent person want to take that away from them? BTW, God never sote the neighboring state of Massachusetts, when it declared same-sex marriage legal and where this couple were first wed.
