"It's just a manner of speaking when someone says the Earth is "round" or "circular"."
The only time I've ever heard anyone call the Earth "circular" is when I'm talking to some moron quoting from the Babble.
Planets are spherical; they're not "circular".
"Of course they mean the planet is like a ball in space."
Then they should say so. Your Babble states the planet is "circular", not "round" or spherical.
"The Bible is way ahead of scientific discovery with its foreknowlede of scientific things and prophecies too."
Name one "prophecy" that's ever been confirmed. It must be something that would not have been obvious at the time of writing, has to be something that has obviously happened (i.e. should require no "reading into" it) and it must be unambiguous in it's description.
Good luck.

Well, guess you showed us.

Eratosthenes of Cyrene calculated the Earth's circumference by measuring the difference between the angles cast by shadows at noon on the summer solstice in two different cities. He was pretty close.
Your book says pi is exactly 3.

The Bible is way ahead of scientific discovery with its foreknowlede of scientific things and prophecies too.
Then why didn't the Bible accurately define the shape of Earth as an oblate spheroid?

Yes...in the MODERN era, where we know this to be true. It is a little harder to say that declaring the world to be a circle is meant to taken in the same way in Biblical times, especially while simultaneously arguing that this vague statement is a revolutionary observation. Trying to have it both ways, I see.

So it doesn't mean what it says? Also, can you write a simple paragraph without insulting those against whom you're debating?

Didn't the Bible say that the Earth is flat and sits on top of pillars? If so, you lose.

Just like it's only a manner of speaking when the bible says the world was created in 7 days? or when eve was created from adam's rib? or are you talking about when Job gave his daughters to sexual deviants to save some angels who could have easily defended themselves?

I'll admit that saying that the earth is circular makes sense (i.e. if you go in any direction you will come back to the same point)
But the bible didn't mean that. it was wrong. Live with it.
@Beeblebrox:
I could argeu that the people of the time had no words to explain that...but I'd be lying my ass off. (ball shaped would be a good interpritation)

Doesn't the bible say you can see all four corners of the Earth from atop a mountain? So not only is it flat, it's rather small AND has corners.

We have the word "sphere" to convey the general shape of the earth. "Round" is not precise and "circular" refers to a two-dimensional shape.
The words "ignorant" and "jackass" correctly convey my assessment of ff1961.

It's just a manner of speaking when someone says the Earth is "round" or "circular". Of course they mean the planet is like a ball in space.
If the only passage on the subject was the one describing the earth as a circle, you might have some ground to stand on. However, the bible also mentions the "four corners of the earth", and has a passage stating that Jesus was able to see all of the earth's surface by standing on a tall mountain, which is impossible one a spherical planet and seems to imply that it is indeed flat.
Plus "circle" is never used to describe a sphere. "Round" can be, since its meaning is less specific, but NO ONE describes a sphere as a "circle" -- a circle always refers to a 2D object.
You're grasping for straws here, pal.
Bible is way ahead of scientific discovery with its foreknowlede of scientific things and prophecies too.
Yes, like how the bible has managed to discover that bats are birds, insects have four legs and snakes eat dirt, despite our foolish modern science still being stuck in the dark ages, and of the opinion that none of these things are true. Unless you can show me a passage that seems to describe the theory of relativity, I'm going to stick with thinking that the bible is a heap of rubbish.
So top that dumb atheists!!!!
I believe this "dumb atheist" just DID, in fact, top that.

Ok filmfans1961, let's play a game. I'm going to launch this circular saw blade at you at a high speed, and it's going to bounce right off you because actually it is a sphere, as proved by your interpretation of the Bible.
