Quote# 42694

But life is a precious gift of the Creator. Only under certain circumstances are we allowed to take it away, as in legal executions. But abortion is not something we are allowed in God's law.

Thou. Shalt. Not. Kill.

What is ambiguous about that?

Which chapter and verse talks about abortions?

If you look in the Pentateuch alone, you'll see that the Sixth Commandment still allows animal sacrifice, capital punishment, abortion (infants under one month old do not count as people), warfare, genocide, and assassination.

But what ever happened to "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone?"

Or if someone commits the most heinous and horrible sin of all, believing in a different sky god than we do.

One commandment says "thou shalt not murder" but it seems killing people that God has commanded us to kill is not actually murder. The commandment's intent is simply to preserve the social order - thou shalt not murder the person right down the street, we want law and order so our cities and armed forces can thrive. Who can blame them, maybe in those times they were pioneering such a civilized concept? But it's not the absolute commandment against killing other humans that others make it out to be.

Just read the Book Of Joshua, it seems little but God commanding His People to conquer a city and kill everyone and everything, down to the tiniest ant. And then they do it, or maybe they spare some little girls or pregnant women, God gets angry, they repent and kill the little girls and pregnant women, maybe in a spectacular way that involves creating monuments to the deed, and God is appeased, and on to the next city.

And abortion is not mentioned much in the bible, and when it IS, it kind of weakens the anti-abortionists claims about their little mission. That's why you don't see them with biblical quotes that directly relate to abortion. (Or quoting Thomas Aquinas on the matter as far as that goes) It's ludicrous to hear them talk about the preciousness of life, and be so easy to convince that a slaughter of innocents in another country is necessary to protect them from 'those bad people'.

Allegory for Jesus

Raised eyebrow.

So you're not allowed to kill...except for in the abundant number of circumstances in which they are arbitrarily permitted, but, obviously, abortion is not one of them...

You see, this is why we can't religious interpretations govern legal policy...

What the fuck is "God's law," now?

Is it Leviticus?

"But life is a precious gift of the Creator."

To be a gift, there must be a gift-giver. Please prove the existence of your Creator-God.

"Only under certain circumstances are we allowed to take it away, as in legal executions."

So, you believe in the "Thou shalt not murder" translation rather than the "Thou shalt not kill" version?

"But abortion is not something we are allowed in God's law."

According to Exodus a fetus is worth less than an actual living person. Please show A. that God exists B. that God wrote or directly inspired whatever transolation of the Bible you care to use C. chapter and verse in which the Bible says abortion is against "God's law" D. chapter and verse in which the Bible says a blastocyst, embryo or fetus is a human being and is to be valued equally with actual, already-born human beings. If you can't do that, then STFU.

If I remember correctly abortion is O.K. if done to unbelievers (there is at least one acount in the OT where the israelites are ordered to, upon conquest of an enemy city, rip open all pregnant women in the city).
(aside from the sevral acounts that just say: Slaughter all, young and old, men and women, children and even the cattle of the conquered town)

"Hosea 13:16 says: "because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword, their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open."

And you say abortion is a sin. Says here it's a normal act of violince.

So it's okay to kill someone who already is alive but not someone who hasn't even been born yet. Am I the only one that sees a problem with this ?

Life is precious, unless you did something wrong.

But abortion is not something we are allowed in God's law.
Maybe you should read your bible Jack.

“Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every women that hath known man by lying with him.”Numbers 31:17

At that time Menahem, starting out from Tirzah, attacked Tiphsah and everyone in the city and its vicinity, because they refused to open their gates. He sacked Tiphsah and ripped open all the pregnant women.2 Kings 15:16

If someone argues that it's actually "thou shalt not murder," you can bet they're trying to justify killing people

Only under certain circumstances are we allowed to take it away, as in legal executions

For the heinous sins of

- eating shellfish
- not being a virgin on your wedding night
- not getting pregnant (proves the woman is unfaithful)
- being raped
- wearing two types of fabric at the same time
- eating pork
- eating cheeseburgers
- planting two crops in the same field

Yeah, I think I'll stick with secular law, thanks.
