HeIsEnough replies:
And the world is dead to God.

Love nothing in this world, because it hates those who belong to God.

He gave us the power to withstand their assaults, and to not take their offenses to heart.

They are dying where stand, speak in complete ignorance of their sick heart, so it is natural to expect they will say all sorts of things; don't be offended, don't take your cues from the world.

Read the scriptures, and all these questions will be answered for you. Literally.

No, they are calling RR a death cult. Because that is what it is after all.

Protip: It's bad to reference death in your assertion that you don't belong to a death cult...

It's also bad to go to RR looking for proof that your religion isn't a death cult.

Waiting for God

Good for you Matthew, we are endowled with sense and reason, would be shame not to use them.

It's right to question something which claims to offer 'salvation' to it's followers and implies that they will enjoy a happier life if they 'submit' to God's will.

Are you as a Christian, happy? Do those around you act in a better fashion than non-believers? Is there an over-whelming attitude of caring and tolerance, forgiveness and compassion within the Christian community around you? Are the Christians you know better people than the non-believers that you know?

If the answer to any of these questions is no then it is right to ask yourself whether you are right - not neccessarily to believe in God - to follow the God that you do or right to submit to others telling you what you should believe and how you should act.

Also, look at 'HeIsEnough's' reply to your statement. He says to love nothing in this world, that non-believers are 'dying where they stand', he calls us 'sick' and 'ignorant' and then tells you to read scriptures, which will answer your questions. If you do read scriptures you will realise that all that God says is 'obey me or suffer eternal torment' and then proceeds to contradict himself to the point of making his 'advice' totally obscured.

So, Matthew, is HeIsEnough right? Is he enough?

Well, more specifically Christianity is not a death cult. RR is, however. My parents are (mostly) good Christians who actually don't even believe in an afterlife. They interpret the bible to say that 'Heaven' can be achieved on Earth through empathy and good will. Reading scriptures might help you with that...well...you might want to avoid the old testament and concentrate mostly on Jesus's teachings, specifically the spirit of them as society has a tendancy to change. You might actually do alright, Matthew71, but it worries me a bit that you're a registered user at Rapture Ready in the first place.

I never refer to Christianity as a death cult, and I always and without apology refer to RaptureReady as a death cult.

"people who call Christianity a "death cult". What upsets me is that some of what they say actually makes sense to me... "

And the response . . . .
"They are dying where stand,"

That answers my question all right.

"And the world is dead to God."

This is an utter twisting of Jesus's message and story. If the world was dead to God, there would be no Resurrection story or Good News. Additionally, those who follow Christ are to live in the world, but not be of it. That means while you do not necessarily value the same things others do, it does not mean you just write off the world. You're supposed to be a part of it, living your life the way the gospels portrayed Jesus.

"Love nothing in this world, because it hates those who belong to God."

1 Cor 13:13:
"But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love."

"He gave us the power to withstand their assaults, and to not take their offenses to heart."

That doesn't mean what you think it means.

"They are dying where stand, speak in complete ignorance of their sick heart, so it is natural to expect they will say all sorts of things; don't be offended, don't take your cues from the world"

Yes, a wonderful tactic. Those who disagree with whatever beliefs you have are sick, depraved, and of the world, ergo you shouldn't pay them any mind. Aren't we who claim to be Christian to look for God's message in everything?

That's right Matthew, be like HeIsEnough. A mute to everyone else. RR is a watering hole for suicidal loonies.

Question. If the world is dead to God, why are we still here?

Answer. Because God doesn't hate us, maybe? Your faith is getting shaky because the world isn't run the way fundiedicks want it to be run.

Yeah. In fact, they'll be answered differently several times and you can pick the answer you want. What a book!

"I find my faith getting a bit shaky these days, and it worries me. One of the things that has been bothering me is the people who call Christianity a "death cult". What upsets me is that some of what they say actually makes sense to me..."

Yeah, well, if the shoe fits...

"And the world is dead to God."

Then he should move on and build another world. Hm... maybe that's why we don't see all the miracles and personal conversations like in the OT; god got tired of fucking with a bunch of ignorant inbred hicks and decided to start over somewhere else.

"He gave us the power to withstand their assaults, and to not take their offenses to heart."

By ignoring the points made just as you ignore reality, no doubt.

"They are dying where stand, speak in complete ignorance of their sick heart, so it is natural to expect they will say all sorts of things; don't be offended, don't take your cues from the world."

Yeah, yeah. Two thousand years and you guys can't come up with something better than this bullshit? It's like you don't even try.

"Read the scriptures, and all these questions will be answered for you. Literally."

Riiiight.

Man, won't you people just get raptured already? You're dangerous. You're mentally ill. You serve no purpose for humanity. I'd be willing to bet just about anything that your god ain't gonna' take any of you losers when he raptures his believers; he's given you brains and lives and a world to live in and you've chosen to ignore it all. That isn't showing much respect for your creator.

Instead of waiting for your god, why don't you just let me make the kool-aid?

Allegory for Jesus

And God is dead to us.

Hate nothing in this world, because it is all we have.

We have the power to withstand the assaults of those who belong to God, and to not take their offenses to heart.

They are dying where they stand, speak in complete ignorance of their sick thoughts, so it is natural to expect that they will say all sorts of things; don't be offended, don't take your cues from them.

Read the scriptures, and question all the "answers" given to you.

Go to Rapture Ready for confirmation that your religion is not in fact a death cult.

I can't see the logic behind this one.

Hah. The first guy is totally correct. If these fundies were confronted with a passage ordering them to poison themselves, they'd be willing to do it. Hell, those snake charming churches down in the south already do this -- on top of handling poisonous snakes, they'll drink small doses of strychnine because of that passage claiming that Christians cannot be killed by poison and snake bites (even though snakes they use generally only cause minor problems via their bites, and small doses of strychnine probably aren't going to do much more than make you feel like absolute shit for a few days). These people are insane.

When we say 'dethkult', we're generally referring to the Rapture Ready people, but Christianity is also that, to a much lesser extent.

Does it ever depress you fundies that a Bipolar Narcissist with Borderline features like me can argue circles around you?

Well, more specifically Christianity is not a death cult.

Not to pick on you, Nutz, but Christianity is a death cult. The central feature of Christianity is a brutal public torture session followed by a Human sacrifice. The communion ceremony is an act of symbolic cannabalism. The most common metaphor for being forgiven for one's sins is "washed in the blood of the lamb/Christ".

Other mentions of death and blood are:

The wages of sin is death.
Die to the "old man" (non-Christian self) in order to become truly Christ-like.
Fox's Book of Martyrs (a book highly regarded by fundies which lists dozens of martyrs for the faith and describes their torture and murder in graphic, almost medical, detail)

Well let's see. You glorify yourselves in death. You worship and ancient torture device. And you constantly pray for the end of the world.
