Quote# 37377

There is NO SUCH THING as an atheist. If you make an absolute statement that there is NO God, then you make the affirmation that you know all things and that you can actually prove this. This is like somebody making a statement that there is no gold in China. You would have to be everywhere at one time and know what is under every rock and in every area of the land, in every man’s home, inside of each person mouth etc. It would not be proveable! [sic] Don’t try to argue that you say there is no God because you cannot prove there is! You cannot make an absolute statement and try to rationalize it by using the negative argument. It does not hold up. At least admit that YOU DON’T KNOW and take your first step toward agnosticism. Only then will you become more rational and realize that having faith is something we all exhibit whether it be in God or anything else.

@James - I have to agree. Agnosticism and atheism are two different things as far as I'm concerned. Agnosticism is a belief that humans have no way of knowing whether or not there is a supernatural force behind the universe, it's not just atheism for chickens.

I don't have to know everything to observe that the Christian god is a logical contradiction. I don't even need to know all that much. I figured out it was a logical contradiction in early high school.

As for a generic "prime mover" god, I can't disprove it, but I don't see any reason to believe one exists, and in the absence of any reason to believe, I choose to take the simplest route and assume it doesn't exist.

All an atheist asserts is s/he doesn't believe in God. They may then argue that there is no credible evidence to do so, but this is understood not to be conclusive proof. Most atheists simply say you might as well invent the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the Invisible Pink Unicorn with equally attributable evidence as God.

So in brief: You so crazy.

They don't have to prove that there is no god.
You're the one shoving god down their throat everyday.
Why don't you prove that there is a god.

The difference is, no one would make the statement that there is no gold in China, because the Chinese government produces these:

Atheist = doesn't believe in God.

Believe.

That's like saying because I am agnostic there might not be a God, but there might: we haven't discovered him yet...

Also, might I indicate the flattering irony that were I to accept your point (which I don't), I could use the exact same argument to refute existence of God anyway.

(You cannot PROVE he exists)

That applies to virtually any ideology, philosophy or religion in the planet. Your point?
