Regardless of whether Genesis is "historical narrative" or not, history can never be taken as absolute facts. It is always somebody's interpretations of the events, and it will be updated and/or distorted over time.

Btw, don't the first and the second chapter in Genesis contradict each other? Which one is to be taken literally?
