"The tiresome 'scientists support evolution' line is not very meaningful. Most folks who use 'scientists' in this context are referring to denizens of the Ivory Tower, often with a PhD after their names in relation to some academic field that is considered a science."

As opposed to...? Bible thumping 'scientists' like Kent Hovind, who obtained his 'diploma' from a diploma mill and is completely ignorant of even basic physics?

I'd want to be anonymous if all I can do to contribute to a meaningful discussion is kiss Kent's arse.

Just because you consider the field of evolution to be of dizzying intellectual complexity, doesn't mean we all do. Some of us have actually read books that have dropped from this ivory tower, and found them interesting and very easy to undertand. Try it some time.

Better having a degree from an Ivory tower than a White Castle...

Evolution is accepted by anyone who has looked at the staggering amount of scientific evidence supporting it.
Creationism is only accepted by Bible and Koran literalists with no scientific education whatsoever.
You pick magic over reality if you want to. My money's on reality.

Don't worry, Marge. Her idea of wit is nothing more than an incisive observation humorously phrased and delivered with impeccable timing.

You mean most scientists are people who have made one or more novel contributions to some field of science? I am surprised!

I thought they all were.

That's right! Don't listen to those over-educated shitheads. They don't know nuthin'. Anyone with half a brain knows all the knowledge that's ever existed, or will ever exist, is contained in your bible.

Aw, STFU.

Yes, that's a pretty good definition of "scientist." Your point?

Yes, people who are actually qualified in a science, and are doing actual scientific research. Of course, real scientists get their qualifications from diploma mills and make up stuff that fits their preconceptions instead of doing research.

The tiresome "Ivory Tower" line is not very meaningful. Most folks who use "Ivory Tower" in this context are referring to their own anti-intellectualism, often with proud ignorance and misplaced populism in relation to some ideology that is considered, by whatever means, remotely valid.

Whereas creationists use the word "scientist" to mean anyone who has better than a third grade education and accepts ID/Creationism, thus making them both leaders and experts in the field.

"The tiresome 'scientists support evolution' line is not very meaningful."

I agree, phrased like that it makes it sound like a political discussion or a popularity contest. The man behind the curtain fundtards ignore is the evidence supports evolution. That evidence supports evolution and only evolution and exists independent of the scientists themselves. Typical fundies, can't attack the data, attack the messengers.

Maybe he means not considered a science, or shouldn't be considered a science. But what the scientists think of a scientific matter is actually pretty important.

Indeed, I prefer to get my science from scientists who got their degree from a diploma mill, tried to con the government by saying "God doesn't pay taxes!", and chants nonsense from a jail cell.

Numbnuts.

As opposed to street science? Seriously, do you people think before you type? They're called scientists because they spend their time STUDYING IN ACADEMIC FIELDS!!!

We call scientists scientists for the same reason we call Kent Hovind a prison inmate.
