Translation: too cheap to buy the kids more than one gift each, atleast that's how the kids will see it when they're older.

I've always thought Christians should celebrate more Jewish heritage, but that last line kind of cancels the whole thing out.

Huh? There is nothing "Christ-centered" about the OT story of the miracle of the oil.
I think it would be neat to celebrate every religion's holidays so long as they involve feasts and presents. Whee!

She's right. Thus far the Jews have completely overlooked Jesus's central role in their holy days. Go figure, huh?

This post confused me. It sounds like he's what they call a "Jew for Christ", of which there actually are a few. I have no problems with either Jews or Christians raising their children in one or the other tradition as long as they're not shoving it in other peoples' faces. I'm surprised this is on RR, though.

but we do have a Nativity (the "Little People" one since our kids are so young)
and because nothing says "holier than a christmas tree" than a kid chewing on one of the wise men and chucking baby jesus across the room?

"My husband and I since having children have decided to approach the day cautiously and Christ centered.
makes sense what with you being Christian and Christmas being an important holiday
We don't have a tree or lights, but we do have a Nativity (the "Little People" one since our kids are so young )
I wouldn't really want to decorate a house for a kid who wouldn't remember the event or understand it, either, so all is good here.
Our tradition so far has been to go to Church Christmas Eve, come home to a nice meal, read the Christmas story, and the kids get one gift each.
Family time + happy religion story + gifts is fine; no use on over doing it with presents as they will only play with most of them once, then brake or forget about them. All good here as well.
When the kids are older and are more understanding we've talked about celebrating/forming new traditions around Hanukka (sp?) instead. In fact, I think it would be neat to observe every Jewish feast in some way with my kids.
Exposing children to other religions, very nice... (first time through I was thinking "How is this fundie?, its almost anti-fundie")
Even though most Jews are blind to it, Christ is centered in every one of those "holy days". "
buh... wha...
