It was my understanding that since the repulsion of the Taliban in Afghanistan by the Coalition Forces, the opium production has increased dramatically.
The Taliban took a very dim view of opium production and made growing it illegally an offense punishable by death.
I suspect the opium production in Afghanistan has more to do with the local warlords going back to a profitable line of business now that the Taliban is not in power.

I submitted this one; I came across it in the course of university research. I started out taking Hamas seriously, as a movement with whom I profoundly disagree on many points but who must be understood within a particular historical context. Then I read this article of their covenant and just burst out laughing. Rotary and the Lions are "sabotage groups" who are responsible for the drug trade and alcoholism? Way to lose grasp of any remotely tenable interpretation of reality.
