Well done Indie,

Hope you all have fun. Telling children something is wrong one minute but ok on another time is very confusing to say the least.

Who is the author of confusion and all lies...Satan.

Then the public wonder why some teens and adults are liers and you can not trust them, its because they have not been shown trust by their parents ie, Santa and talking to strangers on halloween.
Teaching lies is betraying the children but Satan says its okay if you add "temptation", another sin he offers parents to perform.

So kiddies you can dabble in the occult and get your sweeties and presents but don´t forget the wages of sin is "DEATH". Too high a price for 1 nights fun in my opinion. Now that is scary!

Lies. The wage of sin is an eternity of torture, which is worse then death.

Leave us our pagan holiday and you can keep your pagan holiday. I mean, Christ's birthday. Whatever.

No, kids are liars because they went to school. Nowhere do you learn to lie anywhere as good as in school. "Yes, I did my homework, I just forgot it" or "I'm late because we had a power blackout and my alarm clock reseted." Just imagine how many variations there are on those two lies and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Come to the U.S. and see how we celebrate here. Only then will you have the right to criticize Halloween.

Giving children an illusion, is not lying to them. Or do you really think that NOBODY has EVER lied in their lives?.

What about Sky Daddy saying that if you eat from the tree of knowledge you will surely die? Did Adam and Eve pop their clogs, now? Or did God lie?

In the name of all that is high and holy (or low and profane, if you prefer), how does knocking a a neighbour's door and asking for some fruit of sweets constitute dabbling in the occult? Are you out of your tree?

Nor does the festival of Samhain/Halloween have anything to do with Satan. The ancient Celts, whose festival this is, didn't even know a demi-god called Satan. The concept didn't exist for them. They were celebrating New Year.

Any Celts out there care to support me on this? As a Celt and descendent of those who honoured the Samhain Festival, and being from a country where it is still celebrated as part of our inherited traditions, I take grievous offence at the mindless witterings of any and all fundamentalists about Samhain/Halloween, linking it with Satan and such. They are willfully creating their own scariness and bugaboos to frighten each other - and worse, to pervert the minds of their children about something that is of itself quite innocent. In fact, this has got to be a pathology of the psyche. In a word, they are wired to the moon crazies.

Nutcases!

BTW, Samhain/Halloween isn't mentioned in the Bible, so why are your fundamentalists knickers in a twist? Perhaps your blood-god (your version) is really a true devil in disguise?

Finally, 'hallow' means 'to make holy', as in 'hallowed be thy name'... or didn't you ever make the association?

Grrrrrrr!

Given the number of supposedly devout christians on this site who have either lied for Jesus or advocated it, I think you are authors of your own confusion.

The all-powerful all-knowing creator of the universe and all things therein is mortally offended when a 10-year old child puts on some makeup, a costume, and proceeds to walk around his/her neighbourhood saying "trick or treat"? Sounds like this god of yours needs to work on his/her/its priorities.

You probably won't want to, but I'd suggest adding "indoctrinating them into a religion" to that list. Just for the sake of completeness.

Asking neighbors for candy is a sin? Chapter and verse, please. Oh, that's right: God lets you rewrite the Bible on the fly so that everything that give anyone else a little enjoyment is a sin.

Where in the bible does it say "Thou shalt not dress up as Superman, and go out and asketh of the village sweets." Come ON man. Are you people intent on turning the children of the wold into joyless drones? Is it not bad enough that their adult life, in your opinion should be spent in drudgery, their whole life should be? Get real.

"Telling children something is wrong one minute but ok on another time is very confusing to say the least."

Well not everything is black and white, is it? Just because it's bad to lie, does that mean you have to tell the outright and blunt truth to anyone no matter what the situation is?

It's the individual's choice where to draw the line between right and wrong based on their life and the things they've learned, not god's.

Prager nailed it! The creator of the universe gets in a snit about Tricks or Treats. And don't these people lead a wonderful existence? The sheer joy that religion adds to their lives makes me envious.

Ethics can be confusing, but real ethics are not black & white, but shades of grey. Reasonable ethics require thinking, not ancient fairy tales.

That being said, Halloween has nothing to do with Satan.

Oh, that might explain why, when I couldn't think of a costume to wear to college (and work) today, I went with "suicide victim zombie".

Alternatively, I might just have a lot of eyeshadow and a top I ruined by staining it green and wanted to put them together. But that would be the boring option.
