Quote# 30232

[from an article on "How to find a husband, this is just the most hilarious bit)

If you must choose between men who fit everything that we have described above, choose a rich man over a poor man. God does not love poverty.

I am a Christian and I find all kinds of wrong with that statement. I guess you skip over Jesus' liberal teachings (especially about the poor) and choose those parts which speaks to you personally. (i.e. Consevative views)

Yup, because God loves everyone! Unless you're not a a wealthy upper-class heterosexual conservative male. But other than that, God loves us all!

That's why Jesus said that rich people had it so easy to earn God's kingdom(sarcasm). Jokes aside, this is typically calvinist and using religion to fit the belief that "we all have a price"

God does not love poverty.

I think that broke my brain. These people really don't even read their own bloody Bibles, do they? God loves poor people, he favours righteous impoverished people over greedy self-righteous rich people, at any rate.

But hey, I get it; Jesus was just kidding when he said that whole thing about it being hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. (Mark 10:23-26)

That... doesn't sound like the religion that (in part) kept french Canadians on farms to avoid the evils of education...

What? Oh, right. That was Catholicism.

So... Jesus would've been frowned upon by you.

Ho hum. This is a cheap shot, but remember Matthew 19:24?

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Read #11 (the one after this)

11. Go where you can find a righteous man. It is true that you can find a righteous man in many places. However, you are more likely to find a righteous man in some places than in other places. Here are some suggestions:

1. Church
2. PTA Meeting
3. Family gathering

CrazyHappyNinja, the "PTA Meeting" thing is nearly as bad: after all, if the potential husband and the husband-seeking woman meet in a PTA meeting that would pretty much automatically mean that at least one of them already has kids, and so be married (unless both are celibate teachers).
I somehow doubt that a divorced or never-wed parent would fit "Dr." Bisconti's definition of a righteous Good Christian™, and if I know fundies he probably considers artificial insemination as a form of adultery.

The only working combination left, according to his rules, would be two widowers, or a teacher and a widower (the latter leading to a very obvious and very awkward conflict of interests: no teacher in his right mind want to have his own kids as pupils if he can avoid it). That's a pretty narrow window of opportunity for what seems to be the second best possibility in his mind.

I also love how after five exhortations against giving too much importance to physical attraction and apparence, he suddenly says:

13.Make yourself as beautiful as possible. Part of the reason men, and women, get married is for the beauty that their spouse brings into their life. If you are overweight, lose weight. If your hair is a mess, fix it. If you use makeup, use as little as possible.

For the love of money is what again? If you're advocating salvation through being a trophy wife, your own Bible disagrees unless you do even more cherry-picking than the average fundy.

God does not love poverty.

That has to rival "killing a turkey for Thanksgiving is OK because that's God's way of punishing them for being so tasty" as one of the stupidest things ever said.
