Quote# 29835

If we decended from Chimps or Apes or whatever else that they can come up with then why aren't there some of the same physical traits showing up? Why doesn't my cousin Tom not have a tail like a chimp? Why does my daughter not have a nose like an ape? Why does anybody NOT resemble the monkeys? Why isn't one person born with a body full of hair and have a protruding mouth and nose with arms to their feet? Why not just one human?

No, we evolved from a common ancestor.

"Why isn't one person born with a body full of hair and have a protruding mouth and nose with arms to their feet? Why not just one human?"

Because humans didn't evolve from the human-chimp-common-ancestor in a single leap.

It was a slow succession of mutations, each of which happened to be beneficial to the proto-humans and thus swept to fixation throughout the population. This happened over and over and over again, over millions of years.

In fact, in order for a human to be born with as many Chimplike traits as you seem to want here, that poor human would have to be the victim of MANY simultaneous mutations, each of which un-did a specific change on the way from apelike ancestor to H. sapiens -- and with no other mutations. What're the chances of THAT?

Along with everything that has been stated, "in any cell, only about one-fifth of the genes are switched on at any given time."

1. Chimps, as everyone knows, don't have tails either. They do, however, have tail bones. Do you know who else has a tail bone? Your cousin Tom.

2. If not else, the skeletal structure of your daughter's nose (are you sure you've actually produced offspring, by the way?) does actually resemble that of an ape.

3. Apes are not monkeys. Humans resemble both, and especially apes. In fact - take a deep breath now! - humans ARE apes! Imagine!

4. Humans have full body hair. The "protruding mouth" question is really a matter of perspective; some people have quite protruding mouths.

-Chimps (and apes) in general don't have tails.
-Humans very rarely do have vestigial tails, at about the same rate as chimps and other great apes, in fact.
-Some healthy, otherwise normal people have a nearly full pelt. Ditto for long, fingerlike toes. Some people can write and type with them.
-Our skeletons and physiology are extremely similar, and we share something like 98% of our DNA with them.

Do the math. We share a common ancestor.

Considering the diversity of other creatures on Earth, one could almost mistake us for apes / chimps.

Uh, chimps don't have tails, and there ARE people born with hair all over. It's called hypertrichosis.

Linnaeus came to the conclusion that chimps and humans are related simply through anatomical comparison. In fact, he wanted to place them in the same genus, but he knew the church would have a fit. So he decided not to risk his neck and put humans in their own genus.

Apes dont have tails. A chimpanzee is an ape , so no tail.

Daughter is an ape , therefore ape nose.

Look in a mirror.

Humans are more bipedal than other apes so we cant use hands to walk.
