Um, no, what?
Are you suggesting the Sun only radiates light in one direction, and to reach us it has to decelerate and reverse if we're on the other side of the Sun?
And even if your physics made any sense whatsoever, you'd be denying that the sun emits light, prefering instead to believe that the Earth does.
Now... onto the Occam's Razor part. 'Complexity', in terms of Occam's Razor, does not mean "too hard for me to understand". It means the explanation of the available evidence that uses more than the necessary number of entities.

The sun doesn't have a "side". Its pretty much a big ball of burning gas.
(Okay, not exactly burning -- its ongoing nuclear fusion. But "burning" is good enough for these purposes.)

A. The speed of light is constant in a vacuum, which leads to
B. The ether was disproved several decades ago.
Get with the 20th century before you even try for the 21st.
10/9/2007 9:55:39 AM
Wow. The ability to go from incorrect factoid to demolishing a theory so quickly is just breathtaking.
Oh, and speaking as a physicist, the speed of light is constant, no matter where you are. And the "ether" was experimentally ruled out years ago.
10/9/2007 9:55:56 AM
Something smells about this one.
we see no difference in the speed of light at any time of year
In this universe, that observation is absolutely correct.

The next posts suggest the comment was made as a joke or a Poe:

Edit's not working again
Nobody said the sun is the center of the universe. Stop arguing strawmen.
10/9/2007 10:02:21 AM
The sun isn't the center of the Universe you ingrate.
10/9/2007 10:12:14 AM
You've been inhaling too much of that ether.
10/9/2007 10:15:19 AM
...or there's no ether?! Or that Occam's razor suggests GEOCENTRISM DOES NOT WORK WITH SR THAT WAY
10/9/2007 10:19:15 AM
This was made as a parody of fundie-ness, I think. Maddad is usually pretty sensible; this has to either be a case of Poe's Law, or he's on LSD.
10/9/2007 10:21:50 AM
Oh, and speaking as a physicist, the speed of light is constant, no matter where you are.
Um, assuming a constant medium. If the medium changes, chances are the speed of light will, too (e.g light is slower in water than in a vacuum).
But I know you meant that anyway.

"I don't get it so it's wrong" award?

Most educated poe/troll ever.

"If the Sun were the center of the universe..."
".....then we would expect to see a difference in the speed of light through the ether....."
Ether doesn't exist, its an old discarded idea.
"...depending on which side of the Sun the Earth was on."
The speed of light is not dependent on the postion of the Earth or Sun.
"This puzzling fact was used by Einstein in his development of special realativity."
If the speed of light depended on the postion of the Earth and Sun that would disprove special realativity.
"SR is complex though..."
Yep real science is complex, life sucks, get a helmut.
"..so Occam's Razor suggests that the better interpetation is that we are at the center."
So you don't understand Occam's Razor, color me surprised.
"This does away with the need for SR."
No it doesn't special relativity fits the evidence, your bullshit does not.
10/9/2007 10:40:18 AM
The sun isn't at the center of the universe, and the earth isn't at the center of the universe either.
10/9/2007 10:43:48 AM
Occam's chainsaw pwns the galaxy yet again.
EDIT: I should get out more, I've begun to giggle at my own posts
10/9/2007 10:43:50 AM
"If the Sun were the center of the universe, then we would expect to see a difference in the speed of light through the ether depending on which side of the Sun the Earth was on."
But that doesn't happen because the ether bunny blows on it.
Sorry, I meant to say, "Um,... er... WHAT?"
10/9/2007 10:48:42 AM
The sun is not the centre of the universe(neither is the earth) and your special relativity and the theory of the ether is hillarious, to say the least.
10/9/2007 10:53:14 AM
Well it looks like “maddad” is living in his own special reality
10/9/2007 10:58:54 AM
reality is just a theory
10/9/2007 11:01:00 AM
Here come the meds.
10/9/2007 11:02:13 AM
If the Sun were the center of the universe, then we would expect to see a difference in the apparent distance between some pairs of stars depending on which side of the Sun the Earth was on, due to parallax. Since we see no difference ... Oh, wait a minute. Never mind ...
10/9/2007 11:14:37 AM
You actually believe the earth is at the center of the universe? Do you believe it's flat too? I can only assume you are a 16th century peasant who somehow gained access to a time machine. Welcome to the 21st century. You must be amazed at the progress mankind has made in the last 600 years!
10/9/2007 11:21:44 AM
Poe. If you look at the beginning of the thread, the topic is "in class we are staging a mock helio-cent vs geo-cent trial, and I got the geo-cent side, so help me with arguements that cast doubt on helio-cent".
