When I read the Bible, I can feel feelings of comfort, knowledge, and peace. These feelings come from the Holy Spirit, who confirms that the Bible is true.

Numbers 11:1
"Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp."

Yep. Nothing helps me sleep better at night than reading about the exploits of an easily irritated, overly harsh omnipotent being.

Well, it would say that wouldn't it?

You need a better bullshit detector...

I feel feelings of comfort, knowledge, and peace when I read a book in an easy chair in front of a warm fire. These feelings come from the ancient fire spirits who keep the wood burning.

This isn't too bad. From what I've seen it's the people who see peace in the Bible that you can get along with. But the last sentence is pure delusion.

Sounds like you need to cut back on your spirits there. It's downright disrespectful to the booze to get that drunk!

Yep, gotta be true because the voices in your head say it is.

Fundie tactic #1: Faith is evidence. Feelings are evidence. Anecdotal stories with no support are evidence.

You know, I know a lot of people would have bad things to say about this, but I wouldn't call her a fundie. If reading the bible makes her happy, I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't believe in it, but at least she's not insulting atheists and their beliefs.

When I take a dump, I can feel feelings of comfort, knowledge, and peace. Do these feelings also come from the Holy Spirit?

Funny, I'd have thought that the Babble would make a pretty terrible security blanket. As much as I love books, they are hardly soft or cuddly. And let's not even talk about the contents of your fairy tales book of choice... Even the original, non-kiddified version of Grimm's Fairy Tales would be better.

The comfort and peace feelings are triggered by your confirmation that your early brainwashings continue to hold true.

Knowledge? The jury is still out on that one.

Ah, yes, the "feel good" fallacy, closely related to wishful thinking.

Not fundie. I expect most Christians would rationalise their comfort in something along those lines.

Ah, the Mormon method of confirming scripture. No clumsy historical research or inconvenient study, just a warm fuzzy feeling... like a placebo.

I feel peace, comfort and knowledge while reading the god delusion. Therefore there is no god.

Oh noes! What have I done. I've created a world with and without a god.

Make up your mind. Those feelings of confort come from the Bible, from the Holy Spirit or what?
