Quote# 29783

Craig Venter group is in a position to create many new species via gene splicing. They even applied for patents for the processes.

With intelligent input, new species don't take 3.5Ba to create new species.

If Craig's scientists can create new species, so could God.

Creationists are right after all.

Creationists MIGHT be right, but before we can accept that, they first need to prove that God exists.

Creationists are right after all."

Not really. If we can create completely novel bacteria in a laboratory...then it proves we understand the chemistry and mechanisms of a living cell well enough to construct our own. Nothing more, nothing less.

Funny... seems to me the excuse against abiogenesis has always been that 'only God can create life!'

Though if I understand correctly, this example does not actually deal with abiogenesis. Still, the point remains.

You might be right. First you need to prove God exists.

How long did it take us to develop the technology to make this possible? About the span of the planet you say?

How about that.

Before this the Creationists were making the point that life is so complex not even humans can duplicate it, now they're acting like use making life proves their points, which is it?

Except that it's rather pointless for god to "engineer" something in the first place and do it through a rather inferior system of amino acids. Is that the best he could do? If so, we are becoming better at this stuff than god is. It's a conundrum, wouldn't you say?

Following this logic: I can ride a bike. Therefore Bob Boberts McBobberson of 42 Dreary Road Lane, Nowhere, America can ride a bike, only more betterer. Even though such a person does not exist.

I know there are roughly... a zillion T.Nguyens out there, but I hope someone can find out if this is one of the really nutty ones that believes God/Angels are aliens, and secretly seeded human life onto the planet some unclear number of years ago.

... Or maybe that wasn't a bizarre belief set, maybe that was just the back story to a conspiracy theory game.

Mary Shelley and others spent their lives actually preaching against "not playing God" but, what the hell, It's fine to see non-sequiturs.

The idea that scientists exists is just a theory, The Holy Scriptures does not mention any "scientists", therefore it can't exists. have you ever seen a human evolve into a scientist!?!! didn't think so! And if humans can evolve into scientists why are there still humans around? think about that!
Those people who claim to have found scientists are just satanic liars since carbon-dating has been proved to never work so they can't know how old they are.
Since everything must have a creator these allegded scientist must be CREATED by the CREATOR and scripture does not mention that.
And Darwin himself said on his deathbed that something so complex as a scientist couldn't possibly be formed by pure chance!! Goddidit! Harry Potter is EBIL!

Score 1 for happymealungen.

So, Nguyen, someone has managed to-- according to you-- speed up the process of evolution. Therefore, Creationism is right?

Of course, I forgot, as long as the conclusion is one of the main tenets of fundyism it doesn't matter how you get there.

So you're basing God's (supposedly omnipotent) abilities based on the achievements of man?

Isn't that a bit backwards?

No. Creationists don't argued that God could create new species; they argue that evolution couldn't, which is a whole different thing.
