I wonder what this ignorant dolt would say if he learned that Catherine the Great had countless male lovers, or more accurately, male prostitutes, since they gained titles and wealth in return for bedding the empress.
9/25/2007 9:32:27 PM
Well, first, you left out a lot of women rulers. How 'bout QEI or Victoria?
Second, the tactics one uses to rule aren't in question. If one rules through seduction, one still rules.
Third, men demean themselves when they rule through violence and/or treachery. Why should seduction be considered beneath these methods. I suspect it is only because you can't seduce anyone.

Joan of fucking Arc!
9/25/2007 9:52:42 PM
9/25/2007 10:10:17 PM
Lando the Great
The Ptolemaic Empire had a long line of queens, many also name Cleopatra, who basically held the empire together while their male brethren were busy doing...well...absolutely nothing.
9/25/2007 10:11:23 PM
Oh c'mon! Jeanne d'Arc was one of your people for Christ's sake! She lead a whole army in the name of YOUR God. A saint! And she doesn't get one little bit of respect from anyone anymore. Well... isn't that disappointing.
9/25/2007 10:18:09 PM
Doesn't say much for the men who ruled/rule that they were unable to raise armies and conquer enemies just for being hot.
And if she were the only one (larf) it doesn't say much for the power of her enemies that she toppled them with a little bit of T&A.
9/25/2007 10:24:43 PM
Men do have to demean themselves to get powerful, think of any random politician.
9/25/2007 10:47:17 PM
I just had a mental image of Maraget Thatcher whoring herself out to gain power.....
Well that's ruined my day.
Btw all politicans whore themselves out to gain power, at least in a figurative sense.
9/25/2007 10:49:20 PM
Queen Elizabeth and Victoria come to mind.
9/25/2007 11:17:00 PM
Queen Elizabeth would kick you SO HARD
9/25/2007 11:31:42 PM
Queen Elizabeth I would kick your fucking ass.
9/25/2007 11:37:37 PM
Painful, crushing ignorance FTL. Why do these people think that knowing nothing about anything makes them the best candidates for speaking up?
9/25/2007 11:56:33 PM
Troll watch 2007
I have to agree. Women whore themselves to get power. It's sad and true.
They also whore themselves out to find a man to marry. Wait until marriage for sex. Then you won't be a whore.
9/26/2007 12:04:13 AM
*cough* Queen of England *cough*
9/26/2007 12:13:52 AM
Metroid pownz yo noob!
9/26/2007 12:27:06 AM
That's what you get from learning history from computer games.
9/26/2007 1:10:27 AM
@Troll watch 2007
It works both ways, using your logic. Men shouldn't whore themselves around before marriage either, huh?
ANyway, quit fucking well generalising!
9/26/2007 1:17:41 AM
I assume the subtext here is supposed to be that that's the way it should be.
Taking the quote literally it's almost accurate - being able to think of a few other examples doesn't really change the point. It doesn't mention that the reason it's so hard for women to be powerful is an artificial restriction by a patriarchical society, not a natural thing, though.
I do suspect that the subtext is implied, though.
9/26/2007 1:36:36 AM
Actually, Cleopatra was preceded by Hashepshut and, in the Celtic world, there were many female rulers like Boadiccea. Get a little history.
