Wow... whoever submitted this is retarded.
"God does not want us not to use common sense. "
means
"God wants us to use common sense. "
Where's the fundy in that?
Strangely worded, but sensible...
Why do I get the impression that celticmist arrived at this truth by forfeit?
Ok, OK, the church doesn't either.
It's so much easier to dupe fools and control ignorant morons.
Independant thought is of teh debbul.
The double negative is intentional.
CM138 is talking about being prepared for natural disasters and the like rather than just expecting God to protect them.
That's the way I see it anyway, so I see it as not fundy.
"Wow... whoever submitted this is retarded."
Gadren, do you really think it's appropriate to use this kind of language? Or do you just like making fun of mentally challenged people?
Oh, I'm sorry, MM... I COULD say, "whoever submitted this exhibits qualities that I view in a negative light, which I will describe respectfully and in full consideration of everyone who could possibly be offended by something I might say, and so I will forgo the rhetorical device of using exaggeration to make a point and concepts society sometimes finds taboo to emphasize my feelings"... or I could just say "get over it."
People have a lot of problems understanding fundamentalism because they don't know the meaning of fundament. I'll stick to definition 2:
fundament
One entry found for fundament.
Main Entry: fun·da·ment

Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English foundement, from Anglo-French, from Latin fundamentum, from fundare to found, from fundus

3 : the part of a land surface that has not been altered by human activities

Aside from the horrible grammer, this guy doesn't really seem fundy. The rest of his post basically says, "Protect your own ass, because no flying chariot is going to do it for you."
I admit, at first glance I skipped over the second "not" as well. Shit like this is probably why we're told double negatives are a no-no.
The normal guy in me wants to give this a 1 because, really, this isn't terrible at all. The grammarian in me wants to give this a 5, because double negatives piss me off. I think I'll split the difference and go for a 3.
"This makes sense therefore it cannot be in any way shape or form associated with fundamentalism."
Well, you're being a little too generous there. It's great that he wants his fellow Xtians to use common sense, but because an invisible sky-fairy man said so?
Upon seeing the double negative, I agree that this does not belong here.
It could have been phrased better, though.
God does not want us not to use common sense.
That's why I thank God that I am an atheist. Fundy? I don't know what level it's at, but it loses from the first word.
Also. strictly fundie or not, I'm glad that posts like this make it through here - it's all part of the entertainment, thanks to the people willing to scan their websites to pull these gems.
