Quote# 25270

What is it with young earth scientists that gets everyone riled up so? What are people afraid of? It's just science like I thought people liked and put their faith in. If it is wrong then it will be corrected like people say all science corrects itself. The people that did the reasearch are real scientists, with real degrees. Why make it a person attack? The evidence speaks for itself.

Uh yeah, It IS wrong, and HAS been corrected, yet people still back it because they haven't a clue as to what the REAL science says.

\"The bible says x, so x must be true despite any contrary evidence,\" is NOT \"real science.\"

At least he got one part right...the evidence DOES speak for itself.

The evidence speaks for itself.

It does. It says, \"Your conclusions are bullshit.\"

\"The evidence speaks for itself.\"

Apparently, your so-called 'evidence' is suffering a severe case of laryngitis. I haven't heard a word from it yet.

Yes, TYT, the evidence speaks for itself.

The fact that there is no evidence speaks volumes.

YECers are wrong and have always been wrong, because they won't correct themselves. This is not surprising because they are not real scientists and don't have real science degrees. Usually they only have degrees in genesis or thick as a brickness.

Nobody is afraid of that. It´s just that, as it´s not science, they don´t pay attention to it and consider it valid.

\"What is it with young earth scientists that gets everyone riled up so?\"

Well for starters \"young earth scientist\" is a contradiction. GIGO.

\"What are people afraid of?\"

Ignorant fundies screwing up our science education.

\"It's just science...\"

No it's fundie bullshit.

\"...like I thought people liked and put their faith in.\"

See you don't understand science, it's not faith nor is it dogma. Science is based on evidence and only evidence.

\"If it is wrong then it will be corrected like people say all science corrects itself.\"

It does, science is in the long run self correcting. However the bullshit you are peddling is religious dogma, which is never self correcting.

\"The evidence speaks for itself.\"

Yes it does, reality talks and your bullshit walks.

The people didn't do the research, are not real scientists, do not have real degrees. Besides that the evidence is sometimes extremely convoluted and counterintuitive, which is exactly why it took 10,000 years to develop the theory of evolution.

The thing that really gets me riled up about Creationists defending Creationism is the 'mountains of evidence' all of them claim to have. If you talk to evolutionists, you'll probably actually get to hear some of the evidence supporting our side, (transitional fossils, mutation theories, observed cases of evolution, &c.) but ask for even a slice of the 'Creationist evidence' and the debate will probably turn into a shouting match if it continues at all.

It HAS been disproven! The real scientists are in agreement that evolution is backed up by evidence, and young earth creationism is groundless pseudo-science. As for degrees, the REAL real scientists actually studied for theirs, unlike the fundies with their drive-thru PHDs

What gets me \"riled up\" is the YECist \"scientists\" use the title of scientists without using the scientific method.

Try to keep up with the class, TYT, the \"evidence\" and conclusions purveyed by the YECist \"scientists\" have been corrected by the real scientist over and over and over.

And, you're right, the YECist's evidence DOES speak for itself.

Maybe it's because you call anyone associated with \"young earth religious tenets\", a scientist! And you say stupid things like \"the evidence speaks for itself\"! That tends to rile up people who know what a real scientist and true scientific evidence means.

\"Why make it a person attack? The evidence speaks for itself.\"

Yes. Which is why we'd like them to shut up and accept it.

oh wait, you meant their circular logic they claim is evidence because it says it is?

no, see, that's kinda where the problem stems from...

What is it with young earth scientists that gets everyone riled up so?

I'll explain. YECs try to force their beliefs into the public school science curriculum and interfere with the teaching of science. They don't do this with legitimate peer-reviewed scientific debate; they do it by political maneuvering and presenting misleading arguments to uneducated people who can't make an informed decision about the merits of their baloney. Their motive is to proselytize their fundamentalist Christian religious beliefs to everyone else's children. Their entire \"theory\" has absolutely no support outside of the Bible. There is basically nothing that will ever convince them they are wrong. They will invent the most outrageous and far-fetched nonsense out of thin air in order to \"explain\" any objection to their Bible-based beliefs. If you tell them a star was measured at 169,000 light years away, they'll say the speed of light changed, or space is warped in some sort of Star Trek manner. If you point out that Matthew, Mark and Luke listed Bartholomew as a disciple but John left him out and substituted Nathaniel, they'll say Nathaniel must have been Bartholomew's alternate name. There's no far-fetched nonsense they can't invent out of the air to explain anything that disagrees with them. And yet, they want schools to teach this crap to our kids, even if our kids aren't Christians. Then they disingenuously lie about their motives and claim they have no religious agenda. See the Dover School District trial on intelligent design, and how they got caught lying in their court submissions on this issue.

Sorry ... do I sound pissed off on this issue? :-)

Oh my.... I didn't get this one until I read the comments. I thought they meant 'young earth scientists' as in 'youthful earth scientists'! Here I was wondering why they were so passionately defensive especially for the younger generation.
