Quote# 23403

If justice, good, evil do not truly exist, then what are we arguing about?

Yes, God did use His people to kill sometimes. When it was not in self defense (which it was much of the time) the Israelites were His arm of justice for the ultimate crime - denying God Himself.

Under the new covenant, God has different plans for His people, to love one another and forgive since Jesus paid the penalty for sin that was once doled out by Israel as well as God - death. Kinda makes me feel privileged in comparison to OT times.

That's the matter. Why change plans of a bloodthirsty Israel? Isn't God perfect?

\"Self Defense\"? What the hell does an immortal deity have to fear from human beings, that he should get his minions to exterminate them?

The Israelis used the God they invented as an excuse for the genocides they committed when they were establishing themselves as a people.
Nothing surprising there, all primitive peoples did it.
It would've been surprising if they hadn't done it.

But, shouldn't he prevent this crime instead of killing the heathens? Like, for example, showing himself in front of those guys instead of killing them? Or creating them in such a way that they would believe in him? A benevolent deity doesn't kill and punish eternally for something it could prevent.

Excuse me, invading a country to pull off all its inhabitants, for they to inhabit it is self-defence?, what were everybody except the virgins guilty of?, why were those virtually innocent?, do you call it self defence?. And anyway, denying God is now a lesser crime than killing?, in that case you´re justifying abortion, kids until seven are unable to understand the notion of God. And why was God so choosy and left Nabucodonosor or Cirus alone and he was so cruel to the people in Jericoh?. And the Jesus argument is stupid, are you saying that everybody born before his birth was not accountable for sin?, and why keep pestering the people nowadays because they don´t follow the guidelines of the OT?, and finally, is it the word of God, yes or no?

Umm, do you mean Jews? Cause, last time I checked, when I went to Synagogue I'm pretty sure we believe in Hashem . . . yeah. Same G-d.

I always thought that the Bible God was a riff off of Zeus, but the more I listen to fundies, the more I get an Ares vibe...

Of course justice, good and evil exist! Things are seldom all good or all evil, though, which makes absolute justice problematic.

Yeah, I agree, the god of the OT seems more like a monster than a god.

Yeah, the ultimate crime of being on land the Israelites decided belonged to them.
