[How are nations to know what wars are just and what wars are unjust?]

Self defense, including the defense of a nation, is a legitimate cause.

That is the justification for the war we are currently in.

If you meant defending the pocketbooks of the nation's rich and powerful, then yeah, you'd be right.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Thank you.

Lying to the American people about WMD's and 9/11, and War-profiteering are legitimate causes for war? Where the hell is that in your Bible? \"Jesus wept.\"

I fail to see how this is a war of self defense. Bush's war is a war of aggression, not of defense.

Not lying for Jesus, but lying for Bush!

So why did your President lie to the world for his reasons for that war?

If it was so just, and self defence, why couldn't he give REAL evidence instead of falsifying it?

So, because we were attacked on 9/11, we are at war in Iraq, a nation that had nothing to do with that attack, and you think that constitutes self-defense? You're an idiot.

A 'pre-emptive strike' (I think that's what Bush and Blair called it) does not equal self-defense. Hell, I supported the war at first because Saddam Hussein was a dickhead, but their real motives were clear: oil. As evidenced by the fact that Kim Jong Il, Robert Mugabe and various other dicks are still in power.

Do all nations have the same right to self-defence? If yes, then your answer fails. If no, then your answer still fails.

Sure it's justification, as opposed to the real reason.

Yup, when Iraq attacked us on 9-11 we had to get even. Oh wait. That's not right.

\"That is the justification for the war we are currently in.\"

wow, he actually said it himself. There's a difference between a justification after the fact and a just cause before the fact.

Try to keep up, Mr Randy; \"self defence\" was the official line cited as the reason to invade first (and that's a damn stretch in my book anyway) only when your people were able to bullshit the world into a mania about weapons of mass destruction; now that Iraq has been invaded and there is not a fucking shred of evidence for the promised masses of terrifying weapons, it is now more obvious than ever that Iraq never posed a threat to America (The only Americans anywhere that are, or ever were, in any danger from Iraq are the ones currently occupying the country). The new party-line, which they're now acting as if they had said all along, is that it was to remove a tyrannical dictator and free the Iraqi people, as if this makes it somehow OK the war was started on false pretenses.

If it has actually done Iraq some good, then that is something to salvage from the current mess, but it wasn't the reason war was declared and therefore, it still should not have happened. I'd venture to suggest that America would never have allowed the war had \"freeing Iraqis\" been the reason given at the outset, and that is why it s not a valid excuse now.

Damned right, Bro. And if we'd determined that the perpetrators of
9/11 were Europeans it would have justified an invasion of Belgium.

Training Sunnis to kill Shiites and Shiites to kill Sunnis is hardly self-defense. FAIL.

Except of course for the fact that Iraq was not even the slightest threat to the United States before we invaded.
