one thing that has made me take pride in being a christian is that part of what a christian is is that you have values, you have to be polite, and friendly. I guess being an atheist voids all that and makes it religious nonsense.

I can be friendly and polite without having to go to church. I do it because I would like the same treatment, not because I'm scared of being punished for not doing it.

Yeah, being polite is one of those natural human virtues that people typically engage in without even needing to think about, simply because it has always worked. Instinctive, you might say.

The religious nonsense carries with it an imperative to hypocrisy, as the devotees of said nonsense are browbeaten into doing the right thing for the wrong reason.
