Brother, you can't use an excuse like that. It's like saying "show me where in the Bible it says I shouldn't beat my wife". It doesn't! But their are principles there that tell me I shouldn't. It says to "Love your wife". A loving man will not beat his wife. However, someone, who beat their wife, might defend themselves by saying "It's not in the Bible".

And to further illustrate, another thing which people often defend, because it is not in the Bible, is "loving" themselves. I won't mention what I actually mean, and love has nothing to do with it. Anyway, the Bible doesn't say "Don't do that!" directly, but it tells us to flee youthful lusts etc. I am sure most young men (and young women too, and probably older men and women) struggle with this, but there are many who DEFEND this position, claiming the Bible is silent on it, so it must be okay.

Now Chris, I am NOT comparing beating up wives and the other thing, to Rock Music (although a link would probably appear if you took a huge survey of wifebeaters and the music they liked).

One thing that is in the bible is that if a man rapes a woman, he can pay the father a bribe and keep her as his wife. How do you defend that?

The \"other thing\" is M-A-S-T-U-R-B-A-T-I-O-N. Lukasaurus, you don't need to be such a superstitious chicken shit that you dare not say it. I don't think even your psychopathic god would hurl a lightning bolt at you for using a perfectly good English word.

Actually, I think there is a verse about not beating your wife. It's in Malachi, where God is talking abou hating divorce. It says (according to my NIV Study Bible), that \"God hates a man covering his wife with violence.\"

I agree, though, ez-c, about the part about marrying the rapist. I've NEVER understood why God didn't put a commandment in there like \"Thou shalt not treat thy women like pieces of meat.\"

Man, I have to say that I enjoy Chris getting his ass handed to him everywhere he goes. But as for dinosaur boy, if you took a huge survey of wifebeaters I'm certain a link would show up connecting them to church attendence.

you have a weird set of values, there. You talk casually about spousal abuse, but won't even use the word \"masturbate\"? And why does Rock Music get capital letters?

Yes, but you keep saying that we must hate homosexuals because it´s in the Bible, or that there are speaking snakes and that the world was made in six days for the same reason. SOOOOO.

Rahab said:I've NEVER understood why God didn't put a commandment in there like \"Thou shalt not treat thy women like pieces of meat.\"

Because the bible hates women. Everthing is their fault. They brought sin, evil, pain, toil, lust, and whatever else you can think of. They use their 'womanly wiles' to trick poor men who can't control their own penis'. God and the bible hate women. Always have. If \"thou shalt not smacketh thine wife\" were a commandment, it'd be like #3849, somewhere after, \"thou shalt not pick thine nose in public\".

Thanks, but I think I'll continue my extended relationship with Mrs Palm and her five lovely daughters. A much more elegant phrase than \"spanking the monkey\", I feel.

Funny, there was an example study on domestic abuse linkage to music in my wife's Behavioral Studies class.

They concluded that the majority of abusive spouses/parents listened to country music.

I'm not so sure rock music and wife-beating are related. Now, country western music on the other hand... :)

"A loving man will not beat his wife."

- You don't know much about domestic abusers, do you? Ask any abusive man and he will tell you he adores his partner. Its because he loves her so much that he gets so angry when she (fill in whatever convenient excuse he needs), and that's why he hits her.

So, in essence, the abuser feels a grotesque sense of entitlement towards a person he regards as his property, has little to no empathy for his partner, and is absolutely convinced of the justification of the pain he causes. And at every step of the way, he calls it "love." What is really tragic is when the man's partner internalizes his beliefs and regards herself as so worthless that she deserves his abuse.

Now, does the dynamic I described remind you of any other relationships you know about? Perhaps, one from the bible?
