Quote# 20212

Why are you so worried about you or your children having a social life outside of church? Ultimately all they need is one friend, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. However, they can usually find a good friend or two at church. Why does a person have to have a ton of "friends" at school who most likely will not encourage him in the Lord or help him spiritually? I don't think we need to worry about socialization. When I was 5 and my parents began to homeschool me, my grandparents (who are unsaved) were so worried about it. Namely because I would not get the social experience that I "needed." I seem to be doing fine having never been to school, and I thank my parents so much for teaching me at home where the Bible was our main textbook. You don't get that at a public school and rarely at a Christian school.

Right! That's why God created Eve, because Jeebus was enough for Adam, or was it Adam and Steve?

Well, you don't get the \"Bible as the main textbook\" thing in reputable schools for two reasons: first, it's not the 12th century anymore, and second, such an approach leaves the \"student\" woefully unprepared for any profession other than ignorant fundamentalist preacher, submissive wife, or vacuously-smiling churchmember. Most parents would like more for their children than that.

Sure, you're doing okay...until you get out into the real world (prob. in college) and then flip out, overdose on drugs, and get crabs.

your grandparent's fears were apparently very well founded. Seems any hope of being a decent human being were lost by your 'saving'.

Part of me says, Let them continue to encourage homeschooling. The Xians won't survive contemporary society; natural selection will work as it always has, weeding out those without proper social skills.

Because, as God said in the Genesis, it´s not convinient for the men to be alone. We don´t have friends to glorify the lord, we have them because we need company. They´re not objects or conviniences.

When I was a kid, I only had two friends because the rest of them moved away. It took me a fucking decade to stop being a social cripple, and even now I have difficulty interacting with people.

I know a few homeschooled kids.

Only the girl seems to have turned out to not be completely socially awkward, and then... she still needs work.

Home schooling should be against the law for any child that does not have a medical reason not be there.

It cripple kids in the very two things they need most: objective education and social skills.

I am disgusted again.

I sort of feel sorry for this person. Obviously, he has no friends and, what's worse, no understanding of the concept of friendship because he has been warped by his parent's abuse. Sad really.

This is called \"brainwashing.\" Isolate the individual from society and insure that everything he/she thinks is based on a single dogma... classic stuff. When a significant proportion of a population is \"educated\" in this way, one has evidence of a society in decline.

Fundamentalist home schooling = cultural decay. Welcome back to the 11th century. Who cared about the Renaissance, anyhow?

Man, I hate it when people ruin the image of homeschooling. I have quite a few friends who were home schooled and they turned out just fine.

Where I'm from it is actually illegal not to send your child to school.

The scariest part of this individual's story is that the bible was used as the main text. I mean, WTF are the parents using to prepare this kid for society?

This also reminds me of the reason why the monarchy of Saudi Arabia cannot even operate it's petroleum business without the assistance of qualified people from other countries! The Qur'an is the principle form of education in Saudi. This is why you generally have a constant 20% unemployed - when the Qur'an is your only source of education - what can you possibly contribute to your country?

I meet a lot of homeschooled kids at the center where I teach art in the evenings and my wife teaches acting, and they pretty much fall into two categories.

First, the astonishingly bright, confident, and mature, and the other kind, the socialy awkward, timid ones almost always behind grade level in basic skills and knowledge.

And you know what? All the bright and confident ones are from liberal, free-thinking homes, and all the other kind are from the fundamentalist Christian \"Public Schools Are Evil\" families.

Go figure.
