The flag is a living thing in the sense that it represents an idea, and that idea is alive.
This is like V for Vendetta. V says 'ideas are bulletproof' but they're obviously not flame retardant 'cos he got himself all burned up.

Okay, it's official. I have given up on the idea of intelligent people ever being the majority.

I think flag buring is quite acceptable. I don't see what the big deal is. But then again i think patriotism is stupid, for some of the same reasons why i think religion is.
7/2/2007 1:31:33 PM
It is wrong. So dead totally wrong.
7/2/2007 7:19:42 PM
The American flag, as a symbol of unity, is dead. So many racist, hate-mongering, small-minded "patriots" have paid lip service to it while wiping their ass on what it stands for that a lot of people find it slightly shameful to even be associated with it.

They call me V
Is it just me, or are fundies stuck on the 'it's alive!!oneone!'-track from the abortion debate? It's a bit stupider when used in this 'un, but eh... it's Fundie (tm)

Thanks to Hawker I have an answer. I've known for a long time you're not to fly a tattered flag, Burning it as disposal isn't an issue, in fact it's recommended. Why?
Because you're not making a statement.
To the other point, That it's alive....Would you fly something alive tied up high? The answer is frightening

Can...I buy pot from you?
4/14/2008 10:28:33 PM
since the flag is considered a living thing
By who? Morons like you?
They're both living things!!
No, there not you idiot! Stop making smart Americans look like morons.

HE'S GOT NO PULSE!
GET ME A DEFIBRILLATOR!
HE'S STILL NOT BREATHING!

Well, my living flag goes to the BP and gets me smokes when I ask it politely.
It's been starting to date lately, and we are concerned about its choices. We are very worried that it might take up with the "Hammer-&-Sickle" crowd - A horrible peer group.
Meanwhile, I am working assiduously to ensure that the "Flag/Human Marriage Act" passes. I mean, nothing is better than rolling into bed with a nice piece of cloth.

kill the soldiers; save the flags!
5/7/2008 3:45:05 AM
You consider it a living thing...I consider it strangely akin to idol worship. I recall hearing an ancient spirit having it in for that kind of thing...
5/7/2008 4:16:35 AM
Show me two flags breeding then... or a whole litter of flaglets. You know... evidence for this whopper.
... (crickets chirping)
I rest my case.

BTW, since thousands of Iraqi civilians are considered living things, I say anyone who burns one should be charged with murder. They would if they burned a person to death now wouldn't they? They're both living things!!
8/13/2008 3:58:20 AM
Burning is the proper and respectful way to dispose of a flag that is too worn to be flown.
11/28/2008 10:49:19 PM
These people are crazier than Rapture Ready people.
12/21/2008 4:30:02 AM
Holy shit, amigo...
12/21/2008 12:42:00 PM
This gut is so high, he thinks the flag is talking to him.
12/21/2008 5:44:28 PM
Only that the flag is considered a SYMBOL. To be a living thing it has to breath, digest and have bodily functions. Well, think about this, animals are living things............see the problem?
8/9/2009 7:47:36 AM
If the flag is a living thing, so is my chair. Be careful not to hit it too hard.
4/5/2010 4:46:04 AM
that's being a little too patriotic.
9/17/2010 11:06:47 AM
"since the flag is considered a living thing"
Can it reproduce?
Betsy Ross is gonna be pissed!
9/17/2010 11:14:34 AM
A piece of cloth is not a living thing, you cretin. If it were the ones on the moon would have die of asphyxia.
